Job Description Summary

The Construction and Technical programs at Santa Fe College provide a wide range of opportunities to enhance current employment and to provide a career ladder for advancement. Using a hands-on approach to learning, these programs prepare individuals for initial employment in a wide range of industrial occupations.

The Associate Director for Apprenticeship and Technical Programs is responsible for the successful operations of the Building Maintenance and Management certificate program; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HARV) Technology certificate program; and the 5 Apprenticeship programs in Electrical, Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, Carpentry, and Building Maintenance.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Provides leadership and vision to faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to ensure that programs and operations are managed properly.
  • Assists the Chair in managing fiscal and human resources, including planning, budgeting, account management, personnel management, and associated processes.
  • Oversees the management, design, development, scheduling, and implementation of assigned programs.
  • Consistently assesses the quality of assigned programs, recognizing strengths and identifying areas for improvement, and implementing changes as needed.
  • Collaborates with the industry advisory committees, sponsors, local contractors, and Builders Association of North Central Florida (BANCF) to ensure the apprenticeship and technical certificate programs are responsive to workforce development and align with state standards and industry needs.
  • Ensures comprehensive documentation is consistently maintained for all technical certificate and apprenticeship programs of responsibility, including SF, BANCF, NCCER, OSHA, Mike Holt, DOE, Va and ERAP grant.
  • Actively searches for opportunities for increasing enrollment in the HARV, Building Maintenance, and Apprenticeship programs through internal and external stakeholder collaboration.
  • Provides course-related training to faculty and evaluates their performances based on teaching, student performance, and attendance.
  • Provides relevant data for state reporting and regularly attends state meetings and events for technical certificate and apprenticeship programs.
  • Collects data and prepares, maintains, and transmits various internal and external reports and records.
  • Facilitates and supervises the registration of apprenticeship, building maintenance, and HARV students.
  • Monitors student grades, OJTs, and attendance and ensures students have all the necessary documentation for graduation.
  • Assists prospective students in seeking employment with a participating employer and finds employment for apprentices that are laid off or are seeking new opportunities.
  • Serves as the certifying official for veterans in the apprenticeship program which includes processing their monthly certifications and documentation.
  • Represents Apprenticeship and Technical Programs, and the College, at a variety of internal and external committees, conferences, and related activities.
  • Assumes responsibilities of the Chair in their absence, ensuring continued successful operation.
  • Stays abreast of emerging trends and researches best practices.
  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Chair, Construction and Technical Programs

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A bachelor’s in Organizational Management, Construction Management, Building Maintenance, or a related field with four (4) years of experience and/or a combination of completed education and experience equal to eight (8) years with prior supervisory experience.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Prior work experience in higher education, in-field experience, and two (2) years of supervisory experience.

  • Organization & Time Management – able to plan, schedule, and organize tasks related to the job to achieve goals within or ahead of established time frames.
  • Problem Solving – proven skills in identifying issues, determining their cause, developing creative solutions, and following through with implementing resolutions.
  • Relationship Management – able to personally provide high level of interactive service to others, building relationships and addressing identified needs.
  • Results Orientation – proven ability to set and exceed established targets.
  • Systems & Software – proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
  • Detail Oriented – Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Multi-task – Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
