Director, Career Services and Employer Relations


Summary
The Director of Career Services & Employer Relations is responsible for managing the Career Services Office and
its staff, which creates and implements comprehensive career planning to students and graduates. This position is also responsible for
leading employer relationship strategies and developing and maintaining employer contacts, while identifying opportunities for students and
graduates.

Supervise Career Services staff:

  • Coordinate training.
  • Provide necessary tools to staff to enhance work
    performance.
  • Delegate projects as needed.
  • Ensure efficient workflow.
  • Encourage ongoing and meaningful student and
    alumni support.
  • Consistently evaluate performance and provide coaching opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of team
    members.

Provide Career Counseling:

  • Counsel students and alumni on an individual and group basis regarding career planning
    and job search strategies, including self-assessment, networking, interview skills, and professional skills development.
  • Create
    short and long-term action plans and follow-up with students as needed regarding the steps to complete action plans.
  • Review resumes
    and cover letters for students and alumni, including first-year students through open events dedicated to reviewing the basics of drafting
    legal resumes and cover letters, conduct mock employment interviews, and advise law students about interviewing, networking, and job search
    techniques.
  • Keep abreast of ABA and NALP regulations and legal market trends reported by NALP and the ABA and other related
    organizations. Advise law students about current market trends regarding legal and alternative employers.
  • Actively encourage law
    students to utilize Barry Connect (12twenty) and guide students to the information within the resources.

External
Outreach:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for employer outreach efforts by cultivating employer contacts through attendance at
    professional organization events such as bar association luncheons and professional conferences.
  • Participate in legal field
    professional associations and regularly attend meetings.
  • Marketing law students and alumni to employers in the Central Florida area
    and other regional markets.
  • Developing and implementing the department’s employment relations strategies.
  • Research, invite,
    and follow-up to create and expand On Campus Interview Program, including providing opportunities for public interest groups to interact
    with students and offer pro bono opportunities.
  • Forge and maintain meaningful connections with alumni.
  • Create, maintain, and
    expand Employer Database specifically focusing on opportunities to expand the On Campus Interview Program and Career Fair
    participation.
  • Providing content for social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Collaborate with the
    law school’s marketing representative to create advertising materials as needed; direct communication campaigns through forecasting target
    markets.
  • Reach out to external legal community (including alumni, legal employers, and recruiters) to develop relationships and
    facilitate semester recruiting programs and resume collections.
  • Direct all aspects of on-campus interviews and resume collection
    programs.

Statistical Reporting:

  • Maintaining the integrity and security of information for the online databases as
    needed.
  • Conduct statistical analysis regarding all Career Services efforts to evaluate and plan future goals and programming.
  • Processing at-graduation and 9-month post-graduation surveys and other related functions as needed.
  • Gather and prepare
    employment statistics for internal and external constituencies by managing annual outreach project for purposes of completing the ABA
    Employment Questionnaire and NALP ERSS report with minimal oversight.
  • Approve and track students’ Pro Bono (both legal and
    non-legal), PEP, and CCH hours.

Plan and Provide Programming:

  • Develop and implement career path and professionalism programs
    that support students and alumni with career planning and job search efforts. Programs will include informational sessions, panel
    discussions including practitioners, and interactive workshops regarding the private and public sector jobs, judicial clerkships, and
    non-traditional jobs.
  • Draft comprehensive materials regarding various aspects of the career planning process, to be utilized with or
    separately from programs.
  • Plan, oversee, and host Career Fairs on campus.
  • Oversee and provide content for social media
    outlets.
  • Ensure that the functionality of Connect (12twenty) is maximized by posting and maintaining up-to-date information about
    jobs, internships, and events; encouraging its use by students, alumni, and employers; and effectively using its data collection
    capabilities.

Judicial Clerkship Programming:

  • Coordinate and implement a judicial clerkship counseling program, including:
    publish annual Judicial Clerkship Guide, updating as needed; coordinate and conduct Judicial Clerkship information session and former clerk
    panel annually.
  • Establish and maintain a long-term Judicial Clerkship program by tracking students who are interested in and
    pursuing clerkships, maintaining a database of alumni who have completed a clerkship and/or are currently employed as a judicial law
    clerk.
  • Develop an outreach program to foster a pipeline with local, state, and federal courts by attending or participating in
    bench/bar conferences, judicial conferences, or other appropriate events involving the judiciary.

Professional
Development:

  • Seek appropriate professional development activities related to the role of Director as well as for the department staff
    members.
  • Maintain National Association for Law Placement (NALP) primary membership.
  • Participate in NALP and/or similar
    activities to promote professional development and enhance the law school’s visibility on the national stage.
  • Provide student
    programming focused on professional development and cultural competency in a professional setting.

Budget:

  • Oversee budget
    planning for the department by monitoring departmental spending, tracking expenses.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.
