Job Summary/Description
Responsible for the review and placement of teacher, school counselor, principal, and superintendent candidates in accredited school settings. Monitors and processes field placement applications for certification and non-certification candidates in the College of Education. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and district personnel to ensure full compliance with Texas Administrative Code (TAC) requirements. Oversees the recruitment and hiring of qualified Field Supervisors, ensuring all required TAC trainings and certifications are met to effectively monitor, coach, and evaluate candidates in the field. Provides TAC required training to Field Supervisors. Manages the collection of Texas Education Agency (TEA) required data and generates reports using various databases and online systems. Represents ASU at state meetings to support ongoing compliance with state accountability standards.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
- Provide facilitation and support for ASU to comply with Texas Administrative Code by making field experience, teacher residency, clinical teaching, and practicum placements.
- Assists the Dean, the Associate Dean, and the Director of the EPI Center in the administration and management of field-based education programs within the College of Education.
- Attends departmental faculty meetings to provide information and answer questions about Field Experiences, Teacher Residency, Clinical Teaching, and Practicum.
- Presents to classes across certification disciplines about Field Experience, Teacher Residency, Clinical Teaching, and Practicum.
- Serves as liaison with school district administration, faculty, and staff.
- Screens candidates for admission into clinical placements.
- Serves as the clinical placement advisor.
- Evaluates the field experience history of candidates to determine that their clinical placement insures they have a background working with diverse learners.
- Works closely with campus administrators, field supervisors, and mentor teachers to handle any educator disposition infractions that may occur with candidates while in their clinical placement.
- Maintain data and reporting systems for: Field Experience Placements, Teacher Residency, Clinical Teaching Evaluation, Cooperating Districts, Cooperating Campuses, Mentor Teachers, and Field Supervisors.
- Collects and reviews practicum applications for graduate programs housed in the College of Education.
- Facilitates the training of Field Supervisors on a semester basis.
- Conducts orientations and meetings for Teacher Residents and Clinical Teachers.
- Develops electronic support materials for Field Experience Students, Teacher Residents, Clinical Teachers, Field Supervisors, and Mentor Teachers.
- Develops electronic surveys for program feedback and follow-up on candidates.
- Attends meetings on and off campus.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the Texas Administrative Code as applied to field experiences.
- Knowledge of University Educator Preparation Programs.
- Knowledge of School organization and structure.
- Ability to maintain and use databases.
- Ability to use electronic documents, drive, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and school personnel. Able to function in an online environment.
- Ability to manage individuals in the field.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Currently Valid Teacher Certification
- Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
