Ares replaces head of infrastructure debt

Ares has appointed Brent Canada as head of its infrastructure debt division.

The promotion follows Patrick Trears’ decision to take up a senior advisory role in the team, after heading the division since 2022.

“I am honoured to take on this role at a time when infrastructure debt is benefiting from powerful themes across digitization, energy transition and the need for resilient essential assets,” said Canada. “Ares is well positioned to meet this demand through flexible capital, deep sector expertise and the scale of our global investment capabilities,” he added.

Canada has been a partner at Ares since 2022, when he joined from Deutsche Bank, where he was a managing director responsible for infrastructure financing coverage in the Americas.

As part of the reshuffle, Lorenzo Ceretti has been appointed co-head of EMEA infrastructure debt alongside current EMEA co-head Roopa Murthy.

Ceretti joined Ares in 2023 as partner, having previously led the European credit infrastructure business of Global Infrastructure Partners.

“Together, we are excited about the attractive opportunities to support critical infrastructure assets and platforms with tailored financing solutions across the region,” said Ceretti and Murthy. “Infrastructure debt in EMEA is at a compelling inflection point, with accelerating demand for private capital,” they added.

Meanwhile, Spencer Ivey, who has been with Ares since 2022, will continue in his role as head of APAC infrastructure debt, based in Sydney.

“We benefit from a very experienced team, the breadth of Ares’ leading global credit franchise and a continued focus on directly originated investments with top-tier infrastructure sponsors,” said Kipp deVeer, Ares’ co-president. “Brent has been central to that progress, and we are excited for him to lead the business going forward alongside Roopa, Lorenzo and Spencer,” he said.

Ares’ infrastructure debt business has over $13bn (£9.8bn) in assets under management and focuses on global, defensive infrastructure assets across the digital infrastructure, power, midstream, transport and utilities sectors.
