The UK's largest grocer, has slashed the price of over 500 products as part of a push to make shopping more affordable for consumers

Tesco, the UK’s largest grocer, has slashed the price of over 500 products as part of a push to make shopping more affordable for consumers.

The company said the price slashes have been focused products ‘that are bought week-in, week-out’ as well as summer favourites.

On average, the prices have been brought down by around 13%.

The price of pasta has fallen by another 5p, and the price of milk by 10p, as part of the the second spate of markdowns of both products in the last few weeks.

Shoppers will now be able to purchase a 500g pack of pasta for 20p less than they would have done in May, the grocer confirmed.

The same could be said for a four-pint bottle of milk, when compared to April.

What items have been included in the reductions?

– Tesco Tinned Tuna (145g)– fallen 10p to 80p

– 3 pack of Peppers – down 15p to £1.65

– Tesco 400g Block Cheddar – fallen by 20p to £3.20

– 4-Pint Milk – down another 10p to £1.45

– Tesco Red Grapes – down 20p to £1.80

– Tesco Fusilli Pasta (500g) – down an extra 5p to £0.75

– Tesco Free From Pasta (500g) – down 45p to £0.75

– Tesco Easy Cook Long Grain Rice (1kg) – down 35p to £1.25

– Tesco Strawberry/Raspberry Jam (454g) – down 16p to £0.99

– Tesco Tie Top Bin Bags (50L x 20pk) – down 25p to £2.50

– Tesco Frozen Blueberries, Raspberries, Strawberries & Mango – down 25p to £2.25

– Tesco Frozen Cod Fillets (360g) – down 25p to £3.75

– Tesco Orange Juice With Bits Not From Concentrate (1L) – down 20p to £1.50

Other products included in the reductions are cheddar cheese, grapes, tinned tuna, peppers and rice.

Tesco Chief Product Officer, Ashwin Prasad, said: ‘We know that more than ever our customers are looking for great value, and this huge round of price cuts on 500 key household essentials will help their budgets go a little further.

‘With price cuts on products like grapes, peppers, rice and tuna, customers will find it’s even cheaper to eat healthily with Tesco this summer.

‘And we’ll continue to work closely with our suppliers to pass on price cuts to our customers whenever we can.’

The supermarket giant has also confirmed that its popular Kids Eat Free scheme will run again this summer, offering children free meals when an adult uses their Clubcard and spends as little as 60p in Tesco cafes.

The promotion will be available in 310 Tesco cafes across the UK from July 24th to September 1st in England and Wales, from July 3rd to September 1st in Northern Ireland and from July 3rd to August 11th in Scotland.

The reductions come just days after Tesco shoppers slammed the grocery giant for charging a whopping £10 for a tube of Colgate toothpaste.

MPs have also started grilling supermarket bosses over rising profits while prices continue to soar for consumers.

The 75ml tube of Colgate Max White Ultra whitening paste was for sale in Tesco in Sheldon, Birmingham, for a huge £10.

The same store also had a one litre bottle of Filippo Berio olive oil on sale for £10.40.

The latter came as a direct result of the war in Ukraine and extreme hot weather in Spain, which sent the average price of olive oil skyrocketing.

Temperatures in Spain – which is the world’s largest olive oil producer – reached up to 40C in April as rainfall has been in short supply, prompting poor harvests.

Shoppers have hit out at the ridiculous prices on social media, with one user saying they thought the image was ‘fake’.

Another said: ‘For £10 this better whiten everyone’s teeth on my street.’

A third joked: ‘Cheaper long term to have all my teeth ripped out and fitted with fake Turkey teeth.’

A fourth also added: ‘£133 a litre? Makes £1.40 for a litre of petrol seem cheap!’

Another customer complained: ‘What has it come to when you take £20 into a supermarket, buy a tube of toothpaste and some oil, and come away with no change?’
