Drivers are being warned over simple mistake that cost a Mini owner thousands of pounds after she saw a flashing light on her dashboard.

The motorist went to her local garage to top up her windscreen washer fluid, after spotting the levels were running low.

Without help from the mechanics, she popped the bonnet and emptied the soapy liquid into a nosel… moments later her car was smoking and emitting a blue cloud from the engine.

And, on top of all that, the windshield washer light was still flashing.

Can you guess her mistake?

The woman soon discovered that instead of resolving the issue, she had caused irreversible damage to her Mini.

When an employee from the garage went out to inspect the vehicle, he discovered that the woman had poured washer fluid where the motor oil should go.

And, as a result, the engine became covered by a monstrous foamy sludge.

Users were left in shock at the state of the sludge, and were quick to give their opinions.

One person commented: ‘It’s funny, but this can happen to all of us.’

Some users hopped to the woman’s defence, one person said: ‘You could have taken one minute of your time to fill up her windscreen washer!!!’

Another said: ‘As a professional, you have to ask people if they know where to put the windshield washer… not everyone knows everything.’

Another user agreed: ‘Why should we know how to do everything.’

Others were angry with the service provided by the garage, one woman commented: ‘How come BMW sells windscreen washer without offering the customer to refill it? It’s not professional, especially at the price they sell the can.’
