Russia launches drone attack on Kyiv 2nd night in row -Ukraine

“Russia escalated tensions with a second night of drone attacks on Kyiv, intensifying assaults on the Ukrainian capital after a period of relative calm, as reported by Reuters.”

“Escalating Tensions: Drone Attack By Russia on Kyiv – Latest Update by Reuters”

In a significant escalation, Russia conducted multiple waves of drone attacks on Kyiv for the second consecutive night, intensifying assaults on the Ukrainian capital after weeks of relative calm, as reported by Reuters.

Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, revealed that the enemy’s unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeted Kyiv from various directions, changing their vectors continuously. This prompted multiple air raid alerts in the capital.

Preliminary information suggests that Ukraine’s air defense systems successfully intercepted nearly 10 Iranian-made Shahed kamikaze drones in Kyiv and its outskirts, preventing critical damage or casualties.

While Reuters could not independently verify these reports, there has been no immediate comment from Russia.

The drone attacks follow a pattern of heightened hostilities since Russia initiated strikes on Ukraine’s energy, military, and transport infrastructure in October 2022. After a 52-day pause, Moscow resumed air strikes on Kyiv earlier this month, leading to increased tensions.

Despite Ukrainian officials claiming the destruction of drones heading towards Kyiv on Saturday, some managed to hit infrastructure facilities in other parts of Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and other authorities have issued warnings about the potential resumption of large-scale bombardments by Russia during the winter months, recalling the severe impacts experienced last winter.
