Schroders Capital hires Sabrina Meng as head of business development in Asia

Schroders Capital has appointed Sabrina Meng as head of business development in Asia, with responsibility for leading fundraising for its private debt and credit alternatives (PDCA) business.

Meng will join Schroders Capital, the $111.8bn (£83bn) private markets business of Schroders, on 2 March from Oaktree Capital, where she spent eight years.

At Oaktree, Meng helped build out the firm’s Asia franchise, including overseeing fundraising across Greater China and Southeast Asia, and scaled its intermediary business.

Meng will drive Asia fundraising for Schroders Capital’s PDCA business, which has $41.6bn in assets under management, with a focus on specialisms including securitised and asset-based finance, real estate debt, infrastructure debt and insurance-linked securities.

In her new role, she will also be responsible for spearheading business development and sales efforts across Asia, which includes leading and continuing the build-out of its specialist sales team in the region.

Meng will help deepen and grow client relationships to further establish Schroders Capital as a specialist private markets partner for both institutional investors and intermediary partners in Asia.

Based in Hong Kong, she will report into Ingo Heinen, global head of Schroders Capital business development, and become a member of the Asia client group executive committee.

In addition to Oaktree, Meng has previously worked at Monument Group, Emerald Hill Capital Partners, and Bain & Company, and her experience spans consulting, investment and fundraising roles across private markets, with expertise in private and structured credit, private equity and real assets.

Her appointment comes as Schroders Capital continues to expand its team of private markets sales specialists globally.

“This is an exciting hire that brings proven expertise and fundraising success to Schroders Capital, adding to the depth and breadth across our specialist business development team,” said Heinen.

“Asia is an important, strategic region and Sabrina’s experience, combined with our deep bench of client relationship experience across Schroders Group and the specialist capabilities within Schroders Capital, will help us continue to unlock opportunities to drive accelerated growth.”

“Sabrina’s experience in private debt and credit alternatives complements our focus in Asia as we continue to respond to growing client demand for enhanced income opportunities across the full credit spectrum,” added Gopi Mirchandani, head of client group, Asia at Schroders Capital.
