Apple released the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro with the powerful M5 chip last October, and ever since then, it has been steadily dropping in price. The 1TB version has also dropped in price, and right now, it’s down to $1,499 (originally $1,699). The base model with 512GB is $1,399.99 (originally $1,599), matching the Black Friday price, when Lifehacker’s Senior Tech Editor Jake Peterson called it “a ridiculously good value.”

To be honest, this laptop is overkill for most people. The now older M4 MacBook Air (after the recent release of the M5 MacBook Air) is a more than capable laptop and will get the job done for $950, but for those who need that extra oomph, like those who do media editing or complex programming, the MacBook Pro will be worth every penny. This is the first laptop Apple makes with the latest M5 chip, which offers significant upgrades in many aspects, like graphics performance compared to the M4.
In addition to performance improvements over the MacBook Air, the Pro model also has a fan, which the MacBook Airs don’t. This should help keep the machine’s temperature down and prevent performance hiccups.

PCMag says this laptop is so powerful that you can play most games without issues in its “outstanding” review.
