Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, AFT position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Note: This position is in the “NL” category of employment (non-fixed work week) An AFT- NL professional staff member or librarian who is required to work beyond 35 hours shall be compensated through compensatory time off. Compensatory time shall be earned for hours worked beyond the normal work week, or on an employee’s regular day off, if requested and approved by their supervisor.

$73,899 – $84,980
Internal applicants’ salary is based on union-negotiated calculations
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Senior Assistant Director of the Cahill Career Development Center, the Assistant Director serves as the primary career advisor for the school of Social Science and Social Work (SSSW). Oversees and provides advising for students to complete the SSSW Pathways program requirements. Provides career development and graduate/professional school advisement for students.
This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Examples of Duties
DUTIES
- Provide individual and group career advising to SSSW students and alumni. Assist students with career exploration, co-ops/internships, employment, and graduate/professional school preparation activities.
- Serve as lead instructor for the SSSW Pathways courses.
- Collaborate with SSSW Dean and faculty to provide support to SSSW students.
- Plan and execute major SSSW career events: major-specific career fairs, networking roundtables, mock interviews, etc.
- Utilize Handshake (career management system) to disseminate information, schedule student appointments, review/approve documents, and manage events and programs.
- Conduct document reviews using established guidelines.
- Develop and present career workshops for students, alumni, clubs/organizations, faculty, classes, and staff as requested.
- Maintain statistics and prepares reports for programs and services.
- Represent Unit at college-wide events and serve on assigned college committees as needed.
- Support Career Center activities and programs.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree supplemented by a Master’s degree in a related field.
EXPERIENCE
Three years of professional experience in career development, HR, or related services. Applicants who do not possess a Master’s must have 5+ years of professional experience in these areas.
