Duties and
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director Career & Professional Development, Public Interest & Pro Bono is responsible
for cultivating relationships with Public Interest employers to facilitate long-term job opportunities, Field Placement opportunities, and
Pro Bono opportunities for law students. This position works to instill a spirit of community service in Belmont Law students that will
follow them throughout their academic and professional careers. The Public Interest Coordinator works to bridge the gap between the
Nashville community’s legal needs and providing quality, comprehensive legal learning opportunities for students. The staff member would
report to the Assistant Dean of Career & Professional Development.
Job Duties Include:
- Plan, organize, and execute monthly
pro bono clinics. Train students on substantive law and act as attorney supervisor during clinics. Work with community organizations and
student organizations to identify legal needs and student interest and plan clinics to meet those needs. Coordinate logistics of pro bono
clinics including recruiting attorney and student volunteers for clinics, and completing reporting paperwork. - Plan and organize
public interest programming for law students to further their professional development and professional identity formation. Work with public
services organizations, student groups, and alumni base to plan programming that is in line with student interests. Promote programming to
students. - Cultivate relationships with public interest employers and community organizations to facilitate internship, job, and
service opportunities for students. Serve as a direct liaison for internal and external individuals and groups including faculty, law
students, staff, alumni, donors, and community members regarding public interest needs and programs. Implement and manage the annual
Employer Information Day. - Provide individual and group career counseling for law students, particularly those interested in public
interest careers. Meet with each 1L who indicates an interest in a public interest career. Review resumes, cover letters, and other
application materials for law students and provide feedback. Assist students with unique application processes for public interest jobs, and
advise students on mechanics of applying for field placements and receiving credit. - Facilitate pro bono hours tracking and periodic
reporting for each law school class level. Provide reporting to Administrative Office of the Courts for student awards. Plan annual Student
Recognition Event for students completing the pro bono pledge. Encourage and promote these pro bono opportunities to students. - Assist with marketing and communications regarding public interest and career development programming, including developing and
distributing promotional materials through social media and mass communications. Create monthly career services newsletter for students.
Seek out public interest stories to highlight on Belmont social media and other communications.

Required EducationBaccalaureate degree and Juris Doctor
required.
Required ExperienceThe candidate should be a public service-minded individual with excellent
administrative skills. The candidate would be proactive and able to work collaboratively. A positive attitude, strong work ethic,
adaptability, and the ability to multi-task would be essential. Knowledge of legal careers and pro bono positions is highly
encouraged.
The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
