Aviva has appointed Anne Durkin as head of protection reinsurance, a newly created position that reflects the insurer’s growing scale in the UK protection market.
Durkin will oversee reinsurance arrangements across Aviva’s individual and group protection portfolios, including the recently integrated AIG Life business—now operating as Aviva Protection UK Limited (APUK).
She reports directly to commercial director Nick Austin.
Durkin brings over 20 years of protection market experience, most recently serving as head of reinsurance at AIG Life.
She joined Aviva as part of the APUK transition, and has held previous roles spanning pricing, capital management, reporting, and risk at AIG Life, Royal Liver Assurance, and Entegria.
Commenting on the appointment, Austin said: “Durkin has a wealth of experience in protection reinsurance, as well as strong relationships across the market, both of which will be highly valuable as we develop and further strengthen Aviva’s reinsurance function.
Durkin added: “I look forward to continuing to collaborate with our valued reinsurance partners and the team at Aviva to achieve shared success.”
Aviva said the new leadership role supports its commitment to strengthening its position in the protection market while leveraging reinsurance more strategically across the enlarged portfolio.
