Baz Luhrmann Has Designed a New Luxury Train Car for The British Pullman

Few adventures compare to those taken along the world’s most scenic railways—especially if that journey happens to be on one of the most opulent trains.

Excursions aboard The British Pullman, a Belmond Train, have long been considered among the best train trips in the world, with the most discerning travelers stepping into restored 1920s and ’30s carriages that embody a contemporary Golden Age of Travel look and feel. Guests settle into plush dining chairs and couchette-style hideouts for exquisite suppers in Art Deco interiors, all while the train trundles through the British countryside.

The new carriage has been designed by filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and costume and production designer Catherine Martin

Now, more than four decades after the original carriages were meticulously restored to their former glory, another is set to join them on the rails.

For, as of early summer 2026, the British Pullman welcomes Celia; an extraordinary new private dining and events carriage imagined and designed by visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and Oscar-winning costume and production designer, Catherine Martin.

Set within an original 1932 Pullman carriage, Celia features a cocktail bar, lounge, dining area and entertainment space, welcoming lucky ferroequinologists on immersive journeys from London Victoria. The carriage’s design celebrates London’s 1930s West End scene and vintage cinema, based around the fictional character Celia, an imagined leading lady who is gifted her own Pullman carriage following an acclaimed performance as Titania, Queen of the Fairies, in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Celia unites the very best artisans and designers, handpicked by Luhrmann and Martin, to conjure a world of storied theatre across a carriage that draws on the British landscape, theatre, and literary legends.
