East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Career Advisor! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.
As the Career Advisor, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable connecting students with career opportunities using various modalities aligned with their majors. You will be an active member of the Economic Development and Entrepreneurship department and will work closely with the Workforce and Employer Engagement Coordinator to represent ESU at key industry events to enhance career services to ESU students. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your Human Resources or Workforce Development background and your strong interpersonal skills all while developing comprehensive career plans for ESU students. To be successful in this role, the candidate must have extensive knowledge on current hiring trends, excellent communication skills, and be able to pivot to meet departmental deadlines.
Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Career Advisor. There is up to 5% travel in this role. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed – all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.
What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
- Design, implement and evaluate programs that foster career readiness from first year through graduation, offering tailored coaching sessions to support individual student career paths.
- Advise students in career-based assessments, career exploration, and comprehensive job search strategies integrating career readiness competencies.
- Advance ESU’s work-based learning program initiatives and goals by facilitating opportunities that enhance student success through real-world experience.
- Deliver career development services through multiple modalities, including workshops, classroom presentations, co-curricular programming, and targeted one-on-one advising.
- Work with the Engagement Coordinator in cultivating employer and alumni networks strengthening internship pipelines, mentoring relationships, and employer engagement.
- Organize, execute, and assess career expos and recruitment and networking events that facilitate connections between students and employers.
- Develop and implement career and work-based focused initiatives in collaboration with faculty and the university.
- Coordinate and support career-aligned stackable credentials to help ensure alignment with workforce pathways and job placement.
What We’re Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in career and workforce development, employer engagement, or human resources.
- Master’s degree (Preferred).
- Experience in a higher education environment (Preferred).
- Experience working with career platforms including Handshake.
- National Career Development Association (NCDA) credentials.
- Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
- Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
