POSITION SUMMARY:
Delta College, serving as the region’s leader in workforce training, has a team of Employment Services (ES) Advisors placed at the Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! offices. This team works to provide job seekers excellent customer service and assistance utilizing Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! services. ES Advisors work directly with the public in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, frequently shifting between tasks and assisting multiple job seekers at once. The role requires quickly assessing individual needs, providing responsive guidance, and supporting job seekers in taking meaningful next steps toward their employment goals.
This role will be assigned to work from a Michigan Works! service center in Bay, Midland or Saginaw county. This is a grant funded position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Proactively communicate available services and resources to job seekers
- Build rapport with job seekers to identify employment barriers and tailor service delivery to their individual needs.
- Assist job seekers with creating/accessing accounts and posting their resume on the State of Michigan’s (SOM) designated labor exchange system
- Offer individualized guidance to job seekers in the completion of a job search
- Understand the scope of all Michigan Works! and partner agency programs to effectively assist job seekers in utilizing services
- Maintain compliance with unemployment registration requirements; verify job seeker identity, and enter data in a timely manner
- Provide meaningful assistance navigating the unemployment website
- Provide preliminary recommendations regarding unemployment training waivers in accordance with eligibility guidelines
- Refer employer inquiries to the appropriate Business Services Representative
- Comply with all sections of the Employment Services Manual, regulations, and updates
- Make appropriate referrals to partner programs, Veteran services, supportive services, and appropriate SOM and local partner agencies
- Market accelerated training program opportunities, participate in recruitment activities, and identify potential candidates for referral to the training programs
- Enter and maintain job seeker information, program referrals, activities, and case notes in MIS within established timelines to support compliance and performance reporting
- Seek customer service responses through job seeker surveys
- Work with job seekers to obtain success stories on a quarterly basis; write a narrative highlighting the impact of Michigan Works! services for these individuals
- Assist multiple job seekers throughout the day while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and timely follow-through
- Support the Business Service Team with employer hiring and informational events
- Meet MWA-established performance goals; perform outreach to increase program participation
- Deliver reemployment services and eligibility assessments to improve employment outcomes for unemployment claimants in compliance with state policy and unemployment requirements
- Coordinate with ES Manager for services such as interpreters/translators and the provision of services related to H-2A and H-2B
- Participate in agency events as needed
- Maintain updated knowledge on the ES complaint system, assist job seekers with resources and follow up, and submit related reports as required
- Implement and/or support special programs and initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree
- Evidence of intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

- Bachelor’s Degree
- One or more years’ experience working in workforce development, customer service, human services, or a professional office setting
