In today’s competitive job market, having the right skills can make all the difference in securing your dream job. But what skills are most in-demand, and how can you stand out to the 80% of recruiters who plan to hire new staff this year?

To help make sure you’re developing (and studying) in the right areas, we’ve analysed millions of job adverts on Reed.co.uk** to find the seven key skills that employers are looking for:

1. Communication skills

Over 1 million job ads posted on Reed.co.uk in 2024 listed communication skills as something they were looking for in their ideal candidate.

And with a further 39% of recruiters we surveyed stating that interpersonal skills is where their organisation faces the biggest skills gap, becoming a great communicator in 2025 will guarantee you’re in demand.
