State Street invests in Coller Capital to expand secondaries reach

State Street Investment Management has taken a minority stake in Coller Capital as part of its expansion into private market secondaries.

Coller Capital currently manages $46bn (£35bn) of secondaries assets across its institutional closed-end and perpetual fund platforms.

State Street, which manages $5tn in assets, said the investment will support its ongoing expansion into private markets, particularly in equity and credit secondaries.

“We are delighted to welcome State Street Investment Management as a strategic partner and shareholder as we continue to execute our growth strategy,” said Jeremy Coller, chief investment officer and managing partner of Coller Capital. “We’re excited to be working together to broaden access to the secondaries market, helping investors unlock its potential for portfolio diversification and long-term returns.”

The move comes as investors increasingly turn to secondaries for their relative liquidity needs. According to State Street, the asset class saw a transaction volume of over $160bn during 2024, a figure expected to grow to nearly $500bn by 2030.
