Rosamund Pike’s filming schedule never stops taking her to unexpected places. “I was recently shooting in South Africa near the northern border by the Orange River, which is somewhere I probably would never have gone otherwise,” she says. “It’s wildly beautiful and forbidding, and you feel vulnerable, as the environment is so hostile: There’s no water, and no shade until the sun goes down. These otherworldly experiences are so precious and exciting.” It also means that, at this point in her career, the actor and Dior Capture ambassador has nailed down how to maintain her wellness habits during long flights and time zone shifts. Here, Pike, who admits she “doesn’t travel light,” shares her tried-and-true must-packs for when she’s on the road.

In-flight essentials

As much as I’d love to have a glass of Champagne, I order peppermint tea and drink that consistently throughout the flight. I pack my own slippers, an eye mask to sleep, blankets, and a pillow spray. I’m very rigorous with flight socks—they’re really important—and I always take eye patches for [the plane], and minis of my favorite products, decanted into little pots. I apply a face spritz often to keep my skin hydrated. The paparazzi used to be much more of a problem, so I would worry about traveling without wearing makeup, but now I put my skin first.

Drowsy Sleep Co.

Moonlight Shadow silk sleep mask

Jo Malone

Lavender & Moonflower pillow mist

Jet lag rituals

The Dior Capture Dreamskin 1-Minute Mask is my quick fix. It’s a resurfacing skin boost that I carry with me because I know it will sort out my skin after jet lag, disturbed sleep, or a late night. I use melatonin to help regulate my sleep and try to eat in line with the timings of my destination. Once I’ve arrived, I’ll go for a walk outside and breathe fresh air, which helps. Plus, there’s always coffee.

Ways to unwind

Scent is very important to me, so I travel with perfume. I like a fragrance oil called E11even, which was developed by my friend and makeup artist Amanda Grossman. Whenever I use it, I feel more serene. But simply immersing myself in nature can also be a reset. In the UK, particularly if I’m feeling anxious, I seek out green spaces, whether that’s the South Downs or Hampstead Heath.

Earplugs are a simple yet effective tool for blocking out noise, keeping water out of your ears, and even getting better sleep. Whether you’re navigating loud environments, trying to focus, or just seeking some peace and quiet, they can make a big difference—especially in noisy cities, busy workplaces, and on airplanes. They can also help people with claustrophobia and hyperacusis (sensitivity to noise).

“If big noise-canceling headphones feel too overwhelming, earplugs offer a more low-key way to reduce sound,” says Dr. Nishant Reddy, an ENT specialist and sinus surgeon based in New Jersey. “They can also help with sensory issues by softening background noise or minimizing distractions for better concentration.” This added sense of security often translates to greater comfort and reduced stress in everyday situations. Dr. Reddy suggests choosing a pair based on the right material (foam, silicone, or wax), a good noise reduction rating (NRR) for your needs, and options with ventilation if you’re sensitive to ear pressure.

For travelers, earplugs can be a lifesaver. They help prevent airplane ear pain, improve sleep in noisy environments, and protect your ears in busy spots like concerts. Keeping a mix on hand—foam for sleeping, filtered for flights, and silicone for water activities—ensures you’re ready for any situation. Here are our top picks of the best earplugs for travelers.

Our top picks:

Best all-around for travel

Alpine Flyfit earplugs

“If flying leaves your ears feeling uncomfortable, blocked, or painful, consider earplugs like Alpine FlyFit, which are specifically designed to address ear pressure issues,” says Dr. Raj Singh, an internal medicine specialist at Rarev Med Spa. These earplugs feature built-in filters that help regulate air pressure during takeoff and landing, minimizing that annoying ear-popping sensation. Many travelers recommend inserting them just before the plane doors close and keeping them in until landing for optimal protection. Made from soft, hypoallergenic material, Alpine FlyFit molds to your ears for a comfortable, irritation-free fit, even on long-haul flights. Additionally, they reduce in-flight noise while still allowing you to hear important sounds like announcements without feeling completely cut off.

Pros: They are reusable and come with a compact travel case, making them a convenient addition to any carry-on.
Cons: While they’re soft, they do protrude slightly, which can be uncomfortable if you’re trying to sleep with your head against a window or pillow.

Best for claustrophobia

Curvd Cliq earplugs

As a travel writer with claustrophobia, long-haul flights are always challenging. Enclosed spaces can trigger my anxiety, sometimes leading to panic attacks, and the limited movement on planes only heightens these feelings especially when traveling alone. To manage my symptoms, I rely on Curvd ear plugs. Unlike bulky headphones or disposable earplugs, these lightweight, ergonomically designed plugs contour to the inner ear for a snug fit. They also come with four interchangeable tip sizes and three swappable covers (like a functional fashion accessory). I keep a few stashed in my carry-on and purse, ensuring I’m never without them when I need relief. Beyond flights, Curvd also helps me stay focused in noisy environments.

Read a full review of this product.

Pros: These earbuds come in a compact steel case with a clip-on attachment, making them easy to carry.
Cons: It might take some trial and error to find the right fit for your ear but once you get used to using them, they work wonders.

Best for light sleepers

SoundOff earbuds

The SoundOff Sleep earbuds use pink noise to mask unwanted sounds, making them ideal for light sleepers and those disturbed by snoring. Unlike white noise, which can sound harsh, pink noise has a softer, more balanced tone that promotes relaxation, improves sleep, and enhances focus. They are designed for all-night comfort with soft foam tips, a flexible fit, a battery life of 10 to 16 hours per charge, and a case providing up to a week’s use. Many users find them highly effective at blocking noise and improving sleep quality. If you’re looking for a comfortable, travel-friendly solution, these earbuds could be a great choice—just ensure pink noise suits your needs.

Pros: With adjustable volume for the pink noise, these are adaptable to people with different hearing sensitivity.
Cons: They only play pink noise so it may not work for those who prefer listening to music or other sounds while sleeping.

Best for sensitive ears

Mack’s Pillow Soft earplugs

If you’re looking for a simple way to block out noise whether for sleeping, swimming, traveling, or just enjoying some peace and quiet, Mack’s Pillow Soft silicone earplugs are an excellent choice. Unlike foam earplugs, these are made from moldable, medical-grade silicone putty, allowing them to shape to your ear for a snug, custom fit that stays in place without awkwardly poking out. This design also reduces uncomfortable pressure, making them ideal for side sleepers. But these earplugs aren’t just for sleep—the waterproof seal makes them perfect for swimmers, surfers, or anyone with ear tubes needing to keep water out. They come in a pack of 12 and can be used for up to a few weeks.

Pros: With a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 22 dB, they can reduce noise from snoring, traffic, and other background sounds.
Cons: They might feel a little sticky at first, but that wears off quickly.

Best for loud spaces

Loop Quiet 2 earplugs

A saving grace for anyone who gets overstimulated by noise, Loop’s earplugs are exceptionally versatile for all types of situations. “I particularly like the Quiet 2, which I’ve found ideal for taking a quick nap on the plane, popping in when you’re trying to WFH from the buzzing beach bar, or blocking out excess noise when reading while ensconced in the same cozy hotel room as somebody watching TV,” says Condé Nast Traveler’s travel bookings editor Jamie Spain. “They provide the perfect amount of noise reduction to help block out excess sounds and help you focus, while still keeping you in the loop of conversation around you—sure, I could easily don my noise-canceling headphones, but Loop earplugs keep the noise down while still keeping me a bit more aware of everything that’s happening around me in case of emergency (or the flight attendant trying to get your attention with snacks).” The design is ultra-comfortable, so if you’re feeling any irritation at all, it’s likely that you just need to swap the ear tip sizes.

Spain is also a fan of the Dream design, which is specifically created to wear during sleep. “It has an even more comfortable fit in my opinion and is perfect for catching some z’s when sharing the hotel room with someone who snores, but keep in mind that it blocks out even more noise, and made me somewhat nervous that I’d miss my alarm in the morning.”

Pros: It offers up to 26 dB of noise reduction so it can be useful for sleeping, studying, or focusing in loud environments.
Cons: Depending on your ear shape or how much you move while you sleep, they may not stay in place as securely as foam alternatives.

Save on your order with Loops discount codes.

At the vertiginous edge of a rock face, I find a wooden chair and sit down. Below, a creek snakes its way downstream. Ahead, an impenetrable tangle of pine forest that’s home to all manner of bird and beast. It’s not hard to understand what drew director Francis Ford Coppola to this cinematic corner of western Belize, where in 1981 he bought a derelict hunting lodge. It soon became a family retreat and later, Blancaneaux Lodge, a 20-room hideaway loved by in-the-know adventure seekers.

For Coppola’s own children, Blancaneaux Lodge was a paradisiacal coming-of-age setting. “I’d hop around on rocks and swim in the river with my brothers,” recalls his daughter, the director Sofia Coppola. “I feel so lucky to have had these jungle adventures.” It was this deep connection with Blancaneaux—and Belize—that she wanted to channel in a collaboration with Monastery, a San Francisco–based botanical skin-care company with a devoted international following.

Athena Hewett, the esthetician and founder behind Monastery, shares the younger filmmaker’s fondness for forests. “I used to suffer from severe acne, and as a skin specialist, that caused me great anxiety,” says Hewett when we meet at Blancaneaux, where she is training the spa staff on her facial techniques. “So I took myself on an Eat, Pray, Love trip to Indonesia and spent a lot of time in its rainforests—and my skin cleared up.” Returning to San Francisco, she turned to botanicals to formulate her first product: a cleansing oil with anti-inflammatory ingredients.

A longtime admirer of Coppola, Hewett sent her a bottle of the oil as a gift—and earlier this year, Coppola visited Monastery’s spa for a treatment. “Sofia loved that we were plant-based and small-batch,” says Hewett. Just weeks later the two began collaborating on a face mist, made with rosewood from Central America, rose, and orchid oil. It was designed to be used during treatments at the Blancaneaux spa—and to be a perfect souvenir from Belize. “It’s fun to discover new things when you’re on holiday and find the time to slow down and pamper yourself,” says Coppola.

There’s plenty to discover in the areas around Blancaneaux too. One day I set out with Hewett and a few others in kayaks and enter a cave system where we squeeze past columns of stalactites as a primordial darkness envelops us. Another day we ride horses to a waterfall and go for a swim. Access routes in and out of Blancaneaux have vastly improved since the Coppola family first arrived, but not much has changed at the lodge, with its breeze-cooled cottages; wood-paneled Jaguar Bar, where photos of old archaeological digs hang; and warm, familial service. “I love that Blancaneaux has felt the same over the years—rustic but comfortable,” says Coppola.

Beauty and skincare products like shampoo, moisturizer, and face wash are essential on every packing list, whether you’re heading to a hotel or are staying with friends or family. Since buying miniature versions of your favorite products can be expensive—and typically means purchasing a whole lot of single-use plastics—having practical and reliable toiletry travel bottles you can pull out for every trip is a must.

To make sure the reusable bottles we’re throwing in our Dopp kit are easy to use and don’t leak, we tested out a variety of affordable travel sets to see which ones actually get the job done. Below, you’ll find 13 of the best travel toiletry bottles that will protect the contents of your luggage—and all of the creams, soaps, and serums you’ve shelled out for—and keep you organized on the go. Even better, all of these picks are TSA-friendly in size, so you don’t have to worry about any of your favorite products being thrown out at the airport. As an added bonus, many of these travel bottles are available on Amazon Prime, so you can get your hands on them quickly before a last-minute getaway.

How we tested

I scoured the internet to find the most popular travel toiletry bottles—searching a variety of retailers, reading hundreds of reviews, and considering online ratings. After my initial research, I put many reusable toiletry bottles to the test, trying out dozens of options that range in price, size, and design. I’ve had some of these toiletry bottles for over a year and they’ve accompanied me on a mix of weeklong vacations in checked luggage and short weekend trips in tightly-packed duffel bags.

Over the last several months, I tested another batch of options: I’ve filled them with a variety of skincare, hair care, and body products—thick body wash, contact solution, and leave-in conditioner included. I’ve even left these filled containers upside down overnight to see if there were any unexpected leaks. My findings: There are many great options on the market to choose from and you don’t need to break the bank to find the perfect set for you. Below, the best travel toiletry bottles to pack wherever you’re headed next.

Hair and body wash

LiquiSnugs silicone travel bottles with suction cups

No matter how organized I try to stay, my bathroom counter at every hotel always becomes cluttered with my many toiletries and hair products. The LiquiSnugs look like your classic silicone travel bottles, but they feature a clever suction cup on the back that allows you to stick them onto any shower wall—freeing up limited counter space. These are great for in-shower products like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. This set of four bottles features two 3-ounce bottles and two 2-ounce bottles, so you can choose how much product you need depending on the length of your trip. Another smart design feature: Twist the top to adjust the label name so you won’t forget what’s inside. I’ve had these for about a year now and I consistently reach for these to pack shampoo and conditioner.

Pros: The unique suction cup design makes them great for shower products.

Cons: These occasionally will fall off shower walls if there’s not a little bit of water to keep them in place.

Tocelffe 18-Pack travel bottles

This Amazon bestseller is versatile enough for every type of traveler. The 18-pack from Tocelffe features four silicone bottles of varying size (two 3-ounce bottles and two 2-ounce bottles), four small jars for creams and serums, two spray bottles, two spatulas, a funnel, labels, and a cleaning brush. These all come in a waterproof toiletry bag that you can reuse to carry makeup or tech essentials. In this set, I find myself mostly reaching for the ultra-soft silicone bottles, which are great for products like body wash, face cleanser, and micellar water. Each of these bottles feature three-layer leak-proof tops so you don’t have to worry about spills in your bag. Something I love about these bottles is how they can be bent and squeezed easily to get every last bit of product out of them.

Pros: Very affordable, comes in a clear toiletry case, and the bottles’ wide opening makes it easy to refill.
Cons: The small plastic jars are not as reliable as the silicone bottles in this set.

Gemice travel bottles

If you’re just looking for a few affordable no-frills travel bottles, these are for you. Available in a variety of colors, the silicone bottles do just what they say they will. They’re leakproof, come in a set of four, and are easy to refill and clean. While there’s no bells and whistles, these three-ounce bottles pleasantly surprised me with just how much product they fit compared to some of the other classic silicone bottles we tested, making them an ideal option for a longer vacation. Plus, these have an average of 4.5 stars on Amazon with over 11,000 global reviews.

Pros: Versatility; available in many colorways

Cons: This set doesn’t come with labels or a proper toiletry case.

Mrsdry refillable toiletry bottles

Another solid choice for travelers is this set of four 3-ounce silicone travel bottles. These are squeezable, leakproof, and versatile enough to use for everything from shower products and soaps to sauces and baby food. These reusable bottles are all the same size and each a different color so you can differentiate them. Bonus: This set comes in a transparent toiletry case to keep them all organized in.

Pros: This set is available in a dozen colorways; wide opening makes them easy to refill without needing a funnel.
Cons: This set doesn’t come with labels.

Kiasona travel soap box

If you prefer to bring along a bar of soap instead of using what’s provided at the hotel, this compact soap box is a great travel companion. Inside, there’s a soap mat that absorbs any excess water and prevents the soap from becoming mushy. I’ve used other plastic soap cases before without a mat and it always leaves a mess. This one features a silicone band that wraps tightly around the box for extra protection, and is about the size of a deck of cards.

Pros: Fits most commonly used soap brands, affordable, and features a simple-to-use design.

Cons: The soap box needs the band to stay secure so be careful not to lose it.

Cleansers and serums

Cadence The Capsule Flex System

I’ve been a fan of Cadence’s capsules for a few years now. These leakproof, airtight, and watertight magnetic capsules are unlike any other travel bottles I’ve used and are a true game changer when it comes to packing your own beauty products. The individual capsules magnetically snap together to take up as little space as possible in your Dopp kit and are designed without any right angles or edges, so you get every last bit of product available.

The original .56-ounce individual capsules are great for weekend trips and storing small items like daily vitamins and safety pins. The Capsule Flex System allows you to customize your own bundle with your choice of small, medium, and large sizes, as well as The Extender—an add-on that allows you to increase the size of the bottle when you need more room. This makes it so easy to customize your travel routine, whether you want to pack extra product for longer trips or bring enough body wash for you and your travel buddy. With The Flex System, you can still choose your own label for each capsule (the labels are interchangeable), as well as the color and number of capsules in your bundle.

Pros: It’s easy to get every last drop of product inside each capsule and they are so easy to rinse out and reuse. The custom labels can be swapped out depending on what you’re packing.

Cons: These are the most expensive option on our list.

Ries Essential travel bottles

I was eager to test out the Ries travel bottles after hearing a lot of buzz about the product and seeing them make their way into retailers like Sephora and Goop. These are a more elevated, aesthetically pleasing take on the classic reusable travel bottles you may have used in the past. Ries prioritized sustainability and design with these essentials: Each bottle is made from recycled plastic and features a large opening at the top, which makes it easy to refill and clean (not to mention, they’re dishwasher safe). Travelers can purchases these bottles individually (a 3.4-ounce bottle or a 1.7-ounce bottle) or in a set with both sizes. My favorite thing about these bottles is the airless pump—I feel so glamorous while doing my nighttime skincare routine with these, and it makes it easier to use products like face wash or cleanser on the road. The bottles are pre-labeled (shampoo, conditioner, body, face) and you can twist the top to the side to conceal the opening, so product won’t spill out.

Pros: Sustainably made; if you prefer a pump, these are for you.

Cons: On the pricier side; the bottles are a bit bulky and take up a little more room in my makeup bag than most travel-size products I use.

Contact lens care

Cauyuan portable contact lens case

Finally, a solution to my contact lens woes. I can’t count the number of times I’ve stopped into a drugstore to buy a mini bottle of contact lens solution before heading out on a trip, or to pick up rewetting drops because I’m dealing with dry contacts while away from home. This compact case makes cleaning and caring for contacts on the go much easier—it comes with an easy-to-fill reusable dropper that gives me a long weekend’s worth of solution, a contact case, and has a mirror to help get them in and out. (I don’t like to fly in contacts, so this is particularly handy if I forget to switch to my glasses before leaving home.) It weighs next to nothing, and will fit in all but my smallest handbags, so I’ve been keeping it on me regularly, not just when traveling. —Madison Flager, senior commerce editor

Pros: It comes with a tiny pair of tweezers to make removing contacts from the case less messy.
Cons: The contact solution holder isn’t large enough for weeklong trips.

Cauyuan eye glass case

I admit I’ve also been guilty of buying mini versions of my favorite contact solution. As much as I love reusable toiletry bottles for my skincare and hair products, I’ve never had anything that felt right for the consistency of my contact solution. I wear daily lenses, meaning I don’t need a whole lot of solution with me when I travel, so it is a little frustrating to carry around a bottle that takes up precious space in my Dopp kit. Lately, I’ve been carrying about the Cauyuan eye glass case which comes with a super small dropper for contact solution. This refillable dropper holds just enough contact solution for weekend trips and shorter vacations and takes up such little space (I’ve even found myself tossing it in my handbag in case my eyes get a little dry.) This durable case keeps all of my eye care essentials together and protected, with a separate compartment for eye glasses, and another that holds the dropper, tweezers, a contact case, and a mirror.

Pros: All of my eyewear essentials are now in once place and stay organized; the dropper is small enough to fit in a tiny purse.
Cons: The compartment for your eye glasses is on the small size—if you have thick or bulky frames, they might not fit.

Perfume

Vonovo mini refillable perfume bottles

I’ve never found a reusable spray bottle for my perfume that I’ve liked, so I’ve always relied on buying miniature versions of each of my favorite fragrances. But let’s be real—those travel-size perfume bottles are expensive! They’re often made of glass, too, making them vulnerable to breaking in your luggage. Enter the Vonovo mini refillable perfume bottles: Each of these holds 0.2 ounces of your favorite scent, more than enough for a long vacation. This set comes with five spray bottles, so you can bring along any of your favorites—or all of them. And they are so easy to use—simply pull off the top of your full-size perfume, press the bottom of the mini bottle on top of it, and keep clicking until its refilled. Each of the bottles have a clear vial inside so you can see how much product you have left. My favorite part: These are so tiny—think the size of a lipstick— meaning I can even bring them with me on a date night when I’m only carrying a small purse.

Pros: Easy to refill and compact enough to fit in even the tiniest of travel bags
Cons: These spray bottles wont match the look of your full-size perfume and don’t have labels, so you’ll have to remember based on the color of the mini bottle you choose. Also, these can be refilled with the same perfume, but I wouldn’t recommend reusing them with another scent.

A variety of products

Morfone 16-pack travel bottles set

For those with a more rigid skincare or haircare routine, this 16-pack lets you bring along every last product you want—and it all fits into one reusable case. The set comes with four silicone bottles, four jars, two spray bottles, two scoopers, a funnel, and a cleaning brush. The variety means you can pack everything from soap and shampoo to serums and sprays in here, and the cleaning brush makes the bottles easy to clean and re-use. I like this set best for packing my more expensive skincare serums and creams in the small jars that have a scooper to use.

Pros: A variety of types of containers

Cons: The toiletry case the bottles come in isn’t the best quality.

Kitsch Ultimate travel set

The Kitsch Ultimate travel set includes leakproof holders that are compact and lightweight enough to pack in a purse or tote bag. In addition to three flat pouches, this set also comes with two pump bottles, two mini jars, one mini funnel, one mini spatula, and one mini pipette. This set is best for a longer trip—say, a European vacation or a cross-country road trip—as you can store a lot more shampoo, conditioner, and lotions in the pouches without going over any TSA limits (plus, they’ll get lighter as you use them).

Pros: The flat pouches are easy to pack and take up less room in a Dopp kit than bulkier bottles.

Cons: The pouches are a little bit harder to refill than bottles with a wide opening.

Muslish 21-pack silicone travel set

If you’re packing toiletries for your entire family, this 21-pack of travel bottles has you covered. This package comes with four silicone bottles, four cream jars, four toothbrush covers, two spray bottles, two pump bottles, two trowels, a funnel, and labels to keep everything straight. Whether it’s a trip to Disney World or multi-generational cruise, this set makes packing for the whole family easy.

Pros: These come with toothbrush covers–a nice travel accessory that none of the other options on our list offers.

Cons: Not ideal for weekend trips or light packers.

Rainy day essentials

A few weeks of heavy rain in New York City made me realize how ill prepared I am in the rain gear department. As much as I need some new waterproof gear, I definitely don’t want to pay full price for it. I’m adding a packable rain jacket, travel-friendly umbrella, and a comfortable rain boot to my Amazon shopping cart this Prime Day. As far as the rain jacket and boots go, I’m hoping for something polished enough to wear into the office and lightweight enough to fit in my carry-on. And I’ve got my eye on the Weatherman travel umbrella—it looks compact enough to fit in my tote bag. —Meaghan Kenny, associate commerce editor

Restocking on holy grail skincare products

I use the detox serum from Grown Alchemist every day and night. It has been keeping my skin smooth, balanced, and free of blemishes. I’ll also be stocking up on the brand’s hand cream, with cold weather creeping in, I want to make sure my hands are moisturized and soft during the harshest time of year. It’s made from orange peel and vanilla, so it smells amazing while also locking in moisture. —Paris Wilson, commerce producer

I’m nearing the end of a few go-to Tula products—the under eye balm and moisturizing primer, specifically—so if they’re on sale, I’ll stock up on a couple of each. I use the balm regularly, but it’s especially nice to have on hand after a long flight. —Madison Flager, senior commerce editor

A reliable travel steamer

As I frustratedly put on yet another wrinkled shirt the other day, it dawned on me that I could just purchase a steamer. So that’s what’s on my wishlist for this sale: a good steamer, large enough to smooth some serious wrinkles, but small enough to stow in my luggage. —Mercedes Bleth, global associate director, social

Upgraded home essentials

I’ve had the Hatch Restore on my radar for months now, thanks in large part to hearing many a podcast ad with hosts raving about what a difference the alarm clock has made in their morning routine. I’m hoping to see it on sale this week—with shorter, gloomier days ahead, the gradual sunrise light sounds like a pleasant way to wake up.—M.F.

I’ve been nervous about cleaning my couch on my own, but after going to Crate and Barrel to see what they recommend, a sales associate suggested I buy a velvet cleaner and save a couple hundred dollars having someone else do it. The moment I was ready to get to work, a quick read of the directions told me I was missing a key tool: a hand vacuum. The couch is going to look unrecognizable once it’s delivered. —P.W.

Since moving (and traveling a lot) this spring, I’ve been stocking up on all things comfy and relaxing in order to help make my new place feel like home. The first thing on my Prime Day list is a pair of summer-friendly house slippers like the Adidas Aqua Slides that I’ve heard are super cushiony-soft. I’m also looking for aromatherapy to use in my new bathroom, with these Body Restore Store shower therapy packs on deck for my next extra-long hot shower. —Shannon McMahon, editor, destinations

Sporty, outdoorsy goods

First of all, I often travel with tennis gear, so I have my eye on a large tennis backpack. These bags would also make a good carry-on for any traveler, as they have separate compartments for shoes and clothes. I’m also interested in doing longer, more difficult hiking, and maybe eventually a backpacking trip. These lightweight hiking poles would be easy to bring along and helpful on intermediate trails. Lastly, I’m planning a road trip through the Southwest this fall, and I’m looking to bring little gadgets like a phone charger adapter for the car and a fun Polaroid camera for snapshots along the way. —Jessica Puckett, former senior editor, transportation and travel news

Road trip staples

This Prime day I’m prioritizing a mix of sustainability and fun—especially for my road trips. I am in absolute need of an on-the-go water bottle and recently fell in love with the look and feel of this reusable tumbler travel mug. From park days to hiking picnics, I’m also seeking a portable, ultralight hammock to add to my cart. I’m thinking it will make the perfect sun-gazing partner. —Jessica Chapel, editorial assistant

A set of handy packing cubes

I’m looking to up my packing organization game. I used to be a staunch carry-on only devotee, but lately, have gotten a bit too comfortable lazily throwing a bunch of things into a checked bag. In order to maximize efficiency for my next trip, I’m following my co-workers’ leads and purchasing a set of packing cubes. —M.B.

A tech refresh

I’m ready to get my act together when it comes to my day-to-day tech—that’s right, I still don’t have AirPods. I was resistant for years, and leaned into the cord-girl aesthetic for a minute, but it’s time to move on and catch up with the rest of the world. Also, as someone who becomes scattered under stress, I am the ideal candidate for Apple AirTags, and honestly, I’m a little hurt and surprised that my friends and family didn’t buy them for me a long time ago. —Alex Erdekian, former travel bookings editor

TikTok-discovered beauty secrets

I’m on a mission to stock up on all my wishlist hair and beauty finds during the sale. I confess that TikTok has inspired most of these, and for good reason. Who hasn’t been amazed by the magical properties of Chris Appleton’s Pure Wow hair line (frizz-free hair here I come) or the Laneige lip mask, which has now become my holy grail lip product, and the brand’s lip balm, too. In my quest for glass skin, I’ve been dabbling in LED therapy and have my eye on the Project E Beauty Skin Rejuvenation Photon Mask. It has seven LED color settings, and promises glowy results. I’m going to round out my stash with Avène’s thermal spring water spray, a refreshing staple during this hot New York summer. —Pallavi Mohan Kumar, senior visuals editor

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

A sleek, satisfying tech kit

I’ve been looking for a travel organizer that sorts out my always-tangled tech—and dare I say, looks good while doing it. I think the Bellroy kit might be it. I love how this has room for all my accessories, including larger ones, and zips out flat for easy access. Plus, it’s made from recycled fabric, and comes in a range of fun colors. Sign me up for the Bronze, please and thank you. —Arati Menon, global digital director

Socks, because you always need more

It’s no secret that single socks sneak away whenever your back is turned. Travel amplifies the issue—it’s easy enough to lose a pair between your dryer and your bedroom, but when you’re throwing them all crumpled and used into your backpack and moving from hostel to hostel? Forget about it! I adores these Calvin Klein half-calfs, and thankfully the Prime Day gods saw fit to discount. —Charlie Hobbs, editorial assistant

Obviously, the food is very different from anything that we’re used to in Britain, but the restaurants are incredible. And the shopping is too—the vintage shopping is outstanding. So I went to get inspiration for my collections but it’s something we could all enjoy as a family because even the kids love a bit of vintage shopping..

What’s been your greatest/most transformative travel adventure?

Moving to LA really was a time for me to grow within myself, and to accept and love myself. The paparazzi was intense when we lived in the United Kingdom and Spain and we got used to that, day in and day out. But in LA because we were over the other side of the world, we could get away from it more. It was a time when we felt free to be out in the open and hike with our kids and really just be us. So even though it might sound a little strange, I really think that I became who I actually am when we moved to LA.

As a seasoned traveler, what’s the one thing you won’t travel without?

I have a Yeti flask and I go everywhere with it. David has one too, we all became completely obsessed with them. It reminds you to keep hydrated and one of the most important things is to stay hydrated.

How do you make the most of your travel time?

I tend to use the opportunity to read quite a lot. I’ve only recently gotten into podcasts, and I don’t watch a lot of television. At the moment I’m reading This Is Not A Pity Memoir by Abi Morgan, who wrote the TV Show The Split. She’s really a great writer. I also love Matt Haig’s books too—I go through different phases.

Do you have a strict travel beauty routine?

Well, Harper has one hell of a beauty routine going on and she’s only 11. She’s a bit of a beauty expert herself, both skincare and makeup. I do travel with a lot of beauty products. I use my power serum and my cell rejuvenating moisturizer, but I also use other Augustinus Bader products. I like his face wash or I use the Sarah Chapman Ultimate Cleanse which is really good. I use Bioderma wipes to take my makeup off before I cleanse my face, and use Barbara Sturm’s night serum every now and then. I use eye patches and like the ones from the 111Skin Black Diamond range. It’s always a pretty full-on routine. And it’s not just one cosmetic bag, it’s probably four or five bags. I do try to travel as light as I can, but, you know, I do love to have all my products with me too.

  22. Hand sanitizer and wipes
  23. A reusable water bottle
  24. Snack containers
  25. A passport holder
  26. A back-up travel bag
  27. An umbrella

This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date.

1. A trusted tote

A tote is the ideal personal item—it’s roomy enough to store all your odds and ends, and everything you’d want with you during a flight, and is usually pretty pliable, meaning you can squeeze it under the seat without taking up all of your foot room. Look for one with comfortable shoulder straps, should you overload it with snacks from Hudson News. A trolley sleeve is a nice feature, too, so you can slide it over your suitcase while cruising through the airport.

2. A travel toiletry bag

A Dopp kit is key to staying organized—and avoiding spills in your luggage. We like these options from Calpak and Dagne Dover for their water-resistant materials and ample space for your toothbrush and toothpaste, razor, soaps, and more. Depending on where you’re headed, and who you’re traveling with, you might want to opt for a hanging bag, like Calpak’s, that allows you to keep items tidy and off the bathroom counter.

3. Packing cubes

Don’t underestimate the power of a good packing cube. Articles director Lale Arikoglu has waxed poetic about her love of Paravel’s packing cubes (other editors are fans of Away’s set), which come in a range of sizes to store everything from bathing suits and socks to T-shirts

4. Jewelry case

A rule to live by: Never check your valuables, especially jewelry. Keep necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings safe and neatly organized inside a jewelry case. We like Mark & Graham’s for smaller accessories; if you’re packing sunglasses and watches, you’ll want something slightly bigger, like this Amazon option.

Mark & Graham Jewelry Case

5. Reusable travel bottles

Rather than buy plastic minis of a generic shampoo and body wash, get yourself a set of leakproof travel bottles that allow you to bring your at-home favorites on the go. They’re great for storing toiletries and beauty products, but also small items like jewelry or vitamins.

6. Hydrating skincare products

Even if you’re not the type of person with a multi-step in-flight skincare routine, a few basics can go a long way in keeping your skin happy and healthy after a long day of travel (just make sure all your products are in a TSA-approved size). Since hand sanitizer remains a travel essential, a hand balm to apply once or twice a day is equally important to keep them moisturized. Aesop’s smells incredible, and will last for several trips to come—a little bit of the thick, creamy balm goes a long way. Kiehl’s is another editor favorite. Don’t forget a hydrating lip balm, either.

7. A portable charger

There’s nothing like a dead battery to slow down a trip. Keep all your accessories charged up with a power bank—Anker is our go-to, but Calpak’s dual luggage tag-charger is a great option, too.

Anker PowerCore III 10K Wireless

8. A power adapter

For international travel, a power adapter is a must to make sure you can get devices charged up in the airport and your hotel room. Apple’s World Travel Adapter Kit comes with seven AC plugs with prongs that fit into different electrical outlets around the world, and each one is labeled with the regions they are compatible with. (As for compatibility, it works with Apple USB-C power adapters; MagSafe and MagSafe 2 power adapters; 10W, 12W, 30 and 35W USB ports; and portable power adapters.) We also recommend this Bluetooth converter, which lets you use your regular cordless earbuds to watch a movie in flight.

9. Headphones

Whether the plan is to listen to music, watch a movie, or just drown out noisy neighbors, most of us won’t board a plane without headphones. Make sure you have your go-to on hand, plus a pair of corded earbuds (if you forego the aforementioned Bluetooth adapter).

Sony WH-1000XM4 Headphones

Bose QuietComfort 45 noise canceling headphones

10. A luggage scale

Give yourself some added peace of mind with a digital luggage scale; it’ll let you know how much damage your souvenirs did before arriving at the check-in counter on the way home.

11. A way to find your luggage

Speaking of luggage, the Tile Pro and Apple AirTags can help locate lost bags (or wallets, or keys, depending on what you attach it to). In fact, AirTags are one of the items contributor Harrison Pierce wishes he had when he began traveling full-time.

12. An e-reader

Even travelers with a library full of books at home have to admit it: E-readers are an essential travel accessory for bookworms. They are so much lighter than even one paperback book, and let you bring as many options as you want along for the ride.

Browse more e-reader recommendations.

13. A portable fan

If you’re headed somewhere warm, or just tend to run hot, do yourself a favor and pack a portable fan. Whether you choose a handheld option or one you can wrap around your neck, it’ll give you the breeze you need whether you’re in the back of a crowded bus or van, standing in line at Disneyland, or kicking back in a beach chair.

14. A portable steamer

If you’re traveling to a wedding or heading out on a business trip, you may want to bring a portable steamer along to make sure your formalwear looks its best after you take it out of your suitcase. Traveler contributor Erinne Magee put nine steamers to the test to find out which ones are the best options for travelers—below, two of her favorites.

15. A tech kit

All of those tech items mean you’re going to have plenty of charging cubes and cables to keep track of. Save space in your backpack—and save yourself the headache of digging through your bag—by keeping everything wrapped up in a tech kit like the ones below.

16. An eye mask

For a comfortable journey at 30,000 feet—especially one where you hope to get some shut-eye—an eye mask is crucial. The soft, sculpted Mzoo contoured mask is a popular choice amongst Traveler readers. For more help sleeping, try the Bluetooth sleep headband recommended by contributor Iona Brannon, which lets you listen to music or white noise without anything in or around your ears; in a pinch it can even double as an eye mask, she says.

17. A neck pillow

Another comfort essential: a travel pillow. It can take some time to find the style you like best, and your pick might vary depending on whether you’re in-flight or in a car. Two we like: The classic memory foam wraparound neck pillow, which can be tightened or loosened per your preference, and the space age-looking Pluto Pod recommended by contributor Juliet Izon.

18. Cozy socks

We love a good pair of compression socks to fight that pins-and-needles feeling that comes from sitting still for too long, be it on a long-haul flight or a road trip. For those who prefer a cozier option, we recommend socks from Barefoot Dreams.

19. Earplugs

When you need some peace and quiet, swap your noise-canceling headphones in for earplugs. This set comes with multiple sizes, so you can find the right fit, and share with any family members you’re traveling with.

Vibes High-Fidelity earplugs

20. A shawl or blanket

For those who run cold, an oversized scarf will get plenty of use in transit, and can even double as a blanket. Opt for a quality material you can pack for years to come, like cashmere.

J.Crew oversized cashmere wrap

21. Face masks

Despite public mask mandates ending last year, some travelers are still choosing to fly in a face mask to ward off potential sickness, COVID-19 or otherwise, or to protect others if they’re flying while under the weather. Stock up on a set of KN95s from WellBefore or Evolve Together—they’re comfortable yet offer full coverage.

Evolve Together KN95 masks

22. Hand sanitizer and wipes

As for general wellness, hand sanitizer is a must—buy a set and drop one in all your most-used totes and crossbody bags so you’re never without. Wet Ones wipes are nice to have on hand too, especially if you’re traveling with little ones.

23. A reusable water bottle

Rounding out our collection of the best travel accessories are some odds and ends, like a good reusable water bottle, so you can stop buying overpriced bottles at the airport (and be kinder to the environment). The Takeya option below is lightweight and easy to carry, but if you’re particular about your water temperature, or are traveling somewhere warm, go for a stainless steel one.

24. Snack containers

If overpriced airport snacks aren’t your jam, come prepared by filling reusable Stasher bags with popcorn, crackers, fruit, or whatever else you’d like in-flight before you leave your house. A reusable utensil set is another nice-to-have travel accessory that’ll allow you to turn down the plastic cutlery you might be handed in the airport or elsewhere on the road. The spoon and chopsticks are particularly TSA-friendly (while utensils are technically allowed through security, it’s at the discretion of the TSA agent if they’ll let plastic knives or forks through).

25. A passport holder

Also handy: a high-quality passport case (bonus points if it has space to hold your credit cards) to keep your most important document protected. Mark & Graham’s can be personalized with your initials for an added $12.50.

26. A back-up travel bag

For trips where you plan to shop, something lightweight, like Paravel’s Fold-Up Bag or Baggu’s Cloud bag, is a smart addition to your packing list. Stuff it with souvenirs on your way home, or use it for overnight or weekend trips within a longer vacation.

27. A travel umbrella

Depending on your destination, a travel-size umbrella might be worth the space in your luggage. And if you’re driving, tossing one in the backseat is a no-brainer. Contributor Claire Volkman tested out around a dozen options to determine which are the sturdiest and most compact—shop two of her favorites below.

The one essential I keep in my carry-on no matter where I’m headed or for how long: a travel pill case from Amazon. The best travel pill cases are compact, secure, and easy to open on the go, and mine checks all the boxes.

I used to bring the entire bottle of my daily medication in my carry-on and put loose vitamins in a plastic seal top bag—needless to say, this wasn’t the best use of space (or single-use plastic). A year ago, I purchased a $6 travel pill case to save some packing room, stay more organized, and have something I could reuse trip after trip. Since then, it’s been a packing non-negotiable for me and has made taking my medications, vitamins, and supplements while I’m traveling easier than ever.

Holii Daily Pill Organizer

It’s nearly impossible to stick to your normal routine when traveling. While I don’t mind missing a few workouts or healthy meals on the road, I do want to stay on top of taking my supplements and vitamins every day. This sleek, portable case has eight separate compartments that hold everything I need for a week’s vacation in one place and make it easy to track what I’m taking. It features two separate sections: One side with six small chambers for storing daily pills and a second side with two larger chambers that holds capsules and vitamins. Having a pill case with compartments of varied size makes it easy to pack as many pills as you need and organize them however you’d like. I use the smaller chambers for my daily allergy pills and the larger chambers to store emergency essentials that I like to have on hand, like Advil,  Benadryl, and Tums

The size of this travel pill organizer is perfect for most trips I take. The compartments are spacious enough to hold at least a week’s worth of pills, but the case is still compact enough to fit in my Dopp kit (for reference, it’s smaller than an iPhone). I’ve packed this pill organizer on numerous trips and it’s never opened while in transit or spilled any of my items. To secure each chamber, simply snap the plastic top down. After filling the compartments with your medication, snap the two sides of the case together and toss it in your carry-on

Something I love about this travel pill case compared to others on the market is its sleek design. When it’s closed, no one would ever know you have a week’s worth of supplements on hand. And of course, the price is right. This $6 travel essential from Amazon has accompanied me on short weekend getaways to the Catskills, a 10-day European cruise, and countless business trips—and I plan to bring it with me wherever I’m headed next.

If you’re worried about carrying a pill case through airport security, rest assured that travelers are allowed to bring their prescription medications and over-the-counter supplements with them. TSA allows travelers to bring medication in pill or solid form in carry-ons and checked baggage—so you can bring your pill case no matter what bag you’re packing.

While I love traveling with this case, there are plenty of great options on the market with high ratings and glowing reviews. Below, a few more of the best travel pill cases that we recommend bringing on your next getaway.

More travel pill cases we recommend:

Ezy Dose Push Button pill case

Best day-by-day organizer

This best-selling pill organizer has over 57,000 five-star ratings on Amazon. It has two separate compartments for each day of the week with clear AM and PM labels, so you’ll always remember if you took your medication or not. While it’s designed for everyday use, it also doubles as a travel organizer for longer trips. If you’re looking for an everyday pill box that will keep you on track or are headed on a two-week vacation, this one’s for you.

Sukuos Weekly Pill Organizer

Best for organizing by AM/PM

Another Amazon bestseller is this weekly pill case with AM and PM labels. Each day of the week has its own portable, pocket-size case that can be removed from the box and carried on its own for day trips or hikes

Betife Weekly Pill Organizer

Most compact organizer

If you prefer something a little more discreet, this daily pill box has a simple yet polished design. The slim, lightweight organizer slides open and locks into place when you close it, so there’s no need to worry about any of your pills falling out. Inside, there’s a separate compartment labeled for each day of the week.

Acedada Small Pill Case

Another very compact option

This small pill box fits in just about any purse or fanny pack you’re bringing on your next adventure. It features four separate compartments that each fit several capsules or vitamins, making it an ideal choice for weekend trips when you need two to four days’ worth of medications.

Cadence capsules bundle

Best multipurpose organizer

Cadence capsules are one of our editors’ favorite reusable toiletry bottles, but they’re versatile enough to neatly store pills, too. I keep a few emergency Tums stacked in one of these airtight, leakproof capsules in my tote bag at all times.
