When it comes to travel basics, no one does them better (and more affordably!) than Gap. I, for one, have been living in my Poplin Easy Barrel pants this summer, which are just as chic for the office as they are for a long flight. From linen sets and cotton T-shirts to denim shorts and breathable blouses, the all-American retailer has everything you need to keep things light this summer—plus, is there a better place to shop for 4th of July reds, whites, and blues?

Gap has always been a shopping mall mainstay, but there have been some exciting collaborations that have put it back on the map in recent years, from Dôen and Zac Posen to Victoria Beckham and Harlem’s Fashion Row. But what I love most about shopping at Gap is that there’s almost always a sale. Below, find the very best Gap promo codes, coupons, and discounts to help you stock your summer wardrobe.

Get up to 60% off—plus an additional 50%—on Gap sale items without a promo code

From now until July 2, you can score up to 60% off markdowns during the Gap sale, plus an additional 50% off at checkout. Whether you’re looking to stock up on Modern Crewneck T-shirts or trying out the ’90s-style Loose Denim Carpenter shorts, there’s no better time for a wardrobe upgrade. The markdowns also apply to kids, so you can get your little ones outfitted too.

Save up to 50% on shorts, swim, and more summer looks

Now’s the time to stock up on summer classics before the season ends, because you can save up to 50% on Gap warm-weather staples, like shorts, T-shirts, bathing suits, and more. One of my favorite tops, the Pointelle Crop cami, is currently marked down from $30 to $23 in an oh-so-trendy butter yellow, and I’ve also been eyeing these Mid Rise Longline denim shorts, marked down from $70 to $34. Men can save on the Relaxed Pique polo, currently 40% off, as well as the 6” Relaxed swim trunks in the palm tree print (part of a matching set!), which is now 60% off.

Encore members get exclusive benefits, including a 20% first order discount and free shipping

Become an Encore member to get discounts across the entire Gap family—which includes Athleta, Banana Republic, and Old Navy—plus benefits like free shipping, early access to sales, and VIP invites. The membership comes with three tiers: Core (free), Premier (when you spend $350 a year), and All-Access (exclusively for card members). All tiers can earn points on purchases and use them to save on future ones, but some of the benefits of Premier include extended returns and a Create Your Own Sale day, while All-Access members get 20% off on their first order plus first dibs on select collections and drops (hello Gap x Summer Fridays). Combine your membership perks with existing sales to make your savings go even further.

This is the pair of denim that I always reach for when packing—they seamlessly take me from travel days to neighborhood hopping to dinners with friends. The loose, baggy fit means they remain comfortable for hours of sitting, standing, walking around, or doing just about anything else, and the variety of color options from a summery white to a night-on-the-town dark wash suit every activity. The high-rise fit is comfortable and flattering, and my secret weapon is the cinch adjusters—two adjustable snaps on either side of the waistband—that can help customize the fit to your body. While they’re advertised to help cinch in your jeans to avoid the waist gap, I find them just as helpful (if not more) for un-cinching after a large meal or when you’re sitting for a long time, say, on a cross-country flight.

I’m a stickler about clothing composition (something my friends make fun of me for whenever we’re shopping), and I won’t purchase a single thing without checking the materials first. One of my favorite things about these Levi’s (and a few of the other pairs I have at home) is that they’re made with 100% cotton, so they are more durable and maintain their shape well—something you’ll notice after hours on a flight with them bent and wrinkled from your awkward seating positions.

If high-waisted isn’t really your cup of tea or you’re looking for a different denim style, there are plenty of other Levi’s on sale right now for Prime Day. Read on to see some of my favorites—and a few styles I’ll be shopping myself.

More Prime Day sales on Levi’s:

Even more Levi’s jeans are on sale for as high as 56% off right now, many of which I’m eyeing for my own wardrobe, like the Cinch Barrel jeans. A few other pairs that are staples in my closet are the 318 Shaping wide-leg jeans, which are chic enough to wear to the office (especially if you purchase them in a darker shade as I did), and the Low Loose jeans, which have that quintessential “I just threw this on” vibe that’s almost off-duty model-esque—perfect for casual days roaming around NYC.

When you think of popular Euro trip destinations, there are a few countries that often come to mind… France, Spain, Italy, Greece. But anyone who has been to Portugal knows the idyllic country deserves a spot at the top of your dream destination list. After visiting the country for the first time in 2022, I was so obsessed that I convinced my now-husband to return for more adventures the following summer. Since then, we got engaged in Porto at the city’s stunning Yeatman Hotel.

Just west of Spain, Portugal is a small but mighty country with something for every type of traveler. For the history buff, visit the country’s capital city of Lisbon and walk the hilly streets while touring UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Tower of Belém or the Pena Palace in Sintra. For a beach vacation, the Algarve region offers a slower, resort-town atmosphere with sandy shores and picturesque clifftop views. And for wine lovers with an interest in all things port, a trip to Porto’s Douro Valley to visit the city’s beautiful mosaic-style architecture and ancient port cellars and vineyards is a must.

But with a wide range of Portugal possibilities (not to mention hot summer temperatures), it can be hard to put together an ideal packing list. Luckily, I’ve got you covered with some help from Banana Republic. From breezy dresses and comfortable sandals to the perfect beach tote and an array of light linens, here’s our selection of the best pieces from Banana Republic’s summer collection to build your perfect Portuguese vacation wardrobe.

What to pack for:

For the city trip

Wherever you’re visiting, getting your bearings on a city tour is always a smart starting point for a trip, especially if it’s your first time there. And in a buzzing capital city like Lisbon, it’s easy to get lost in the surrounding wonders. Visit historical landmarks like Belém Tower or enjoy sky-high views of the city from the top of the Santa Justa Lift. Just an hour outside of Lisbon, explore the colorful town of Sintra and enjoy sweeping views from the stone walls of the Moorish Castle.

But keep in mind it will be hot. Whether you’re venturing out on a day trip excursion or indulging in traditional pastel de nata while roaming the city streets, you need breathable, comfortable clothing that works for all-day wear—and ideally won’t show sweat. For this, linen is always a good idea. From cargo-style shorts to shift dresses, you can’t go wrong with pieces made of the lightweight material in the heat. Accessorize your linen or cotton look with an easy-access crossbody bag and a durable pair of walking shoes, like these stylish Mary Jane espadrilles in place of your traditional sneaker.

There’s a joke among New Englanders that we endure the long, brutal winters because the summers are genuinely that good. I’ve been hearing people say that since I grew up here in the ’90s—and now, having spent much of my career traveling the world, I can report that it isn’t hyperbole. From June through August (and some would say into September), New England is at its most seductive: the hydrangeas are in bloom, the lobster rolls somehow taste better, and the golden hour light turns cedar shake homes and windswept beaches into something cinematic.

That’s why New England dominates mood boards and algorithms this time of year. This corner of America has long been the source of effortless, all-American summer style, from breezy linen shirts and time-worn boat shoes to the lightweight sweaters we keep within arm’s reach for crisp Atlantic evenings.

Shopping Mr. Porter for my New England summer wardrobe feels particularly fitting—it’s the premier source for high-quality menswear I can wear in the summers, and travel with all year round, too—and the only thing more exciting than the arrival of the season’s first beach day is the arrival of one of those gorgeous white boxes. If your summer plans involve New England, here’s what I suggest you wear for the trip.

What to pack for:

For daytime exploring

Don’t underestimate how hot and sticky New England summers can be. That being said, the sweltering, sunny weather shouldn’t deter you from exploring all the choose-your-own-adventures that New England has to offer—you just need to find the right outfit that looks the part without breaking a sweat. Personally, I plan on living in a breathable linen set and a comfortable boat shoe this season. It’s the outfit I’m wearing for long, hot days perusing the curios at the Brimfield Antique Flea Markets out in the Berkshires, and also to the Boston Public Library’s free Concerts in the Courtyard series—and then for sunset drinks on my roof deck afterward.

As travel editors, we get to cover a lot of ground—and we don’t just mean miles, but all the proximate joys that come along with life on the road, from the restaurants we’re dining at to the books we’re reading on the plane. This June, the editors at Condé Nast Traveler are ushering in summer with World Cup games in Kansas City and regattas in Sorrento. Euro summer is in full swing, and our team is scattered between Megève, Copenhagen, Patmos, and Ibiza. As you can imagine, inspiration is coming from all corners, whether that’s in the form of maximalism at the new Vanderpump hotel in Vegas, or the history of art on the streets of Florence. Below, what our editors across our London and New York City desks are loving this month.

Olivia Squire, features editor

June is that time of year when the UK is at its most outrageous, show-offy, and blindingly beautiful—when all I want to do is drift around a walled garden, lie under an oak tree, or drink rosé in a pub garden. I started the season with a trip to Glen Dye, a collection of art-suffused cottages and cabins in the Scottish Highlands. Its just-opened “luxury dry goods store” is a tiny, brilliantly obtuse (those wanting to procure items have to write, call, or visit) shop championing British crafts. Then to the new Hope by WildLand, where the outside is brought in through gloriously tactile materials like flax, tweed, and stone. Its ongoing rewilding of 120,000 acres of Sutherland wilderness is truly inspiring—as is Isabella Tree’s Knepp in Sussex, where I dropped into the Wilding Kitchen for a glass of Wiston Estate sparkling wine.

I was there to check out the Black Horse, a gorgeous, 11-room revamped pub in the tooth-achingly sweet village of Amberley, where the star of the show is the Italian-inflected menu by chef Antonio. He uses produce from the nearby Nutbourne Estate, which I popped into for its first “Burgers and Bubbly” of the season. Other recent weekenders include Somerset’s The Newt, which I’ve had on my list for years—its astonishing gardens didn’t disappoint—and my annual pilgrimage to Charleston Festival. I picked up Olivia Laing’s The Silver Book after hearing them speak about darkness, sex, and intrigue in 1970s Rome—a summer beach read with bite.

For all that countryside gallivanting, there’s nothing like London in the sun. Bar Etna is going to be the place of the summer, and I also can’t wait to try The Golden Tooth. As an Olivia, I’m naturally piqued by OLLY’s x Voodoo Ray’s olive-heavy menu for National Olive Day. And as a millennial woman who Lily Allen has in a chokehold, I’ll be heading to Mighty Hoopla to see her for my first festival of the year. For my summer wardrobe, I’m coveting these fishermen’s sandals from Cos, a nautical-ish shirt from Sézane, and some Chloe sunglasses to channel French girl chic; but realistically, you’ll see me stomping around town in my new favorite Damson Madder dress (it’s giving picnic blanket). Finally, I’m off to Ytri, a remote island retreat in Norway, to take a breather from all that midsummer madness.

I was in high school when Aerie first opened in my hometown, and I still remember heading to the mall with my friends to check out what the American Eagle offshoot had to offer. Now in my 30s, the lifestyle retailer is still one of my go-tos for stretchy leggings, supportive sports bras, adorable (and affordable) accessories, and cozy matching sets that make for the perfect airport uniform. Take a peek inside my closet, and you’ll see I still have Aerie pieces that I bought back in the 2010s—I’ve found that everything I own from them is built to last, with high-quality fabrics and classic silhouettes that never go out of style.

If you’re looking to upgrade your loungewear, activewear, or even underwear, the Aerie website is certainly worth a visit. And if you’re eager to save a little money in the process (aren’t we all?), then you’re definitely in the right place. I’ve rounded up the best Aerie coupon codes, discounts, and exclusive deals below, so you can get the best bang for your buck while elevating your wardrobe.

Seasonal savings at Aerie this June: up to 70% off clearance items

The curtain has officially closed on spring, which means now is an excellent time to take advantage of end-of-season deals and early summer markdowns at Aerie. Right now, you can score up to 70% off already great prices by shopping the clearance section, which is regularly updated with new items. Scroll through, and you’ll find markdowns on apparel and accessories alike—ideal if you’re shopping for swim, sandals, sweatshirts, or beyond. This sweater tank with a flattering halter neckline is officially on my wish list—I can’t believe it’s only $12 after the 70% discount.

More savings on Aerie bras, leggings, and more

Aerie frequently drops discounts on staples across the site—you just have to do a little digging to find which categories are offering promotions. For example, you can currently stock up on high-quality essentials with up to 57% off T-shirts, bras for as little as $15, and the brand’s OG Cotton leggings for just $24. The best part? You can stack most coupon codes on top of these promotions for even deeper discounts.

Get 25% off for every friend you refer, and they’ll get 20% off

This promotion screams, “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine!” in the best way possible. Send any friend an Aerie referral code, and not only will they get 20% off their first purchase, but you’ll get 25% off your next order. Ready to get that sweet discount? Visit the refer-a-friend portal, and you’ll be prompted to enter your name and email address. From there, you can send the referral code via text or email.

The key here is to make sure that the person you’re sending the code to is a new customer—i.e., they’ve never purchased from the Aerie site before. If they have, the code won’t stick, and neither of you will get a discount (and that will be sad).

Join Aerie RealRewards for an extra 10% off

Aerie likes to reward its loyal customers, and the RealRewards program will get you plenty of perks as you shop. Sign up on the website using your email address, and you’ll get sent a code for an extra 10% off your purchase. But it doesn’t stop there—RealRewards members also always get free shipping on orders over $75, a $5 birthday reward, access to members-only sales and events, and 4–8% back in rewards on every purchase. Oh, and did I mention it’s completely free to sign up? You’ve got nothing to lose!

A European vacation means different things to different people, but is always, without fail, a sublime experience in summer. That said, the sheer range of getaways means that your packing list for a long weekend (say, a challenging hike in the Dolomites) could vary quite drastically from another (finding your favorite “local,” a.k.a. village pub, in the Cotswolds). You’ll almost certainly need a hot-weather wardrobe to withstand the sun, but whether that’s practical shorts (with pleasingly deep pockets) or a sleeveless linen dress depends on the destination.

But don’t worry, once you’ve decided—between a city break, a coastal escape, or a countryside retreat, we have you covered on what to wear. Below, a style guide to what to pack for a Euro trip this summer.

What to pack for:

City breaks

Daytime dresses

While separates may be more practical, Milanese women will be more impressed by a daytime dress, whether it’s made of printed cotton or breathable linen. Dress up such lightweight practicality with a silk scarf and oversized sunglasses, plus a leather handbag in the crook of your arm; you’ll look great wherever you go, whether you’re browsing the streets of Cinque Vie, spotting flamingos in the the garden of Villa Invernizzi, or making a pilgrimage to the famously chic Fondazione Prada.

Warm weather is finally upon us, which means you’re likely getting ready for a summer vacation. And with that comes everyone’s favorite activity: packing. As an avid traveler, I’ve always found packing for summer trips to be much easier than any other time of year. Why? Think light layers, airy dresses, and my ultimate summer go-to: the matching set.

Sure, matching sets are a year-round closet staple for some, but in the summertime, they are truly unmatched. The best matching sets are effortlessly versatile; think lightweight linen pieces that help keep you cool, crochet styles that go from the beach to the bar with ease, and chic silk sets that can be dressed up for any balmy evening. For me, two-piece sets are the key to packing less and wearing more—they always look put together, are both comfy and cute, and, of course, can be mixed and matched with other items in my suitcase.

And yes, there’s a matching set style for every type of trip. Playing tourist in a European town? Try an interchangeable linen pant or shorts set from Aritzia, Everlane, or Gap. Frolicking through a California vineyard or an English countryside garden? I suggest a flouncy skirt set from Banana Republic or a lace-trimmed balloon pant with a matching tank from Staud. Enjoying a sun-soaked island vacation in the Caribbean or Mediterranean (it’s me, I’m personally planning a getaway to Sicily and Malta)? Blend into the colorful coastal atmosphere with brightly patterned sets from brands like Alémais and Diarrablu.

Whether you’re packing for a weekend in the Hamptons or planning your upcoming Eurotrip, there are matching sets below for every kind of summer vacation destination, mood, and activity.

Diarrablu

Jant pants and Moussor scarf top

Make a statement on your next exotic getaway in this ornately designed two-piece set from Diarrablu. The brand is really leaning into this summer’s scarf top trend with this vibrant set. And while the silky set comes in an array of bold patterns and bright colors, the Ula Mint print is a geometrical design inspired by coastal hibiscus and Hawaiian island flora. It’s an ideal night-on-the-town set for those tropical vacations or a fabulous destination wedding guest look.

Aritzia

Cavalier top and Artisan pant

For linen essentials, I always head to Aritzia. The brand’s interchangeable linen pieces allow you to mix and match sets for a more versatile and cohesive wardrobe. Take this top and pant set made from Aritiza’s soft and airy Cruise Linen. (The name itself will have you feeling vacay-ready.) I love the clean lines of these pieces, which, paired together, make for a sophisticated set that can be dressed up or down—I’ve personally paired the look with heels, flats, and even sneakers. The Artisan pants, with the adorable side bow accents, also make for great travel bottoms when your typical leggings and jeans are just too restrictive.

Madewell

Embroidered sleeveless top and midi skirt

Another skirt set option that will add an instant pop of color to your vacation wardrobe is this eyelet look from Madewell. The wild poppy set is not only a bright, beautiful color, but the embroidery detail is why I simply had to have this breathable poplin outfit. The elastic waist skirt with its intricate scalloped hem perfectly matches the sleeveless, cropped top, which has a playful (and comfortable) bubble hem. For those who find the poppy colorway a bit too vibrant, the set also comes in white with brown embroidery detail.

Reformation

Mira two piece set

In addition to scarf tops, asymmetrical hems are having a moment, which is exactly how this Reformation set ended up on the list. The Mira two-piece set is an effortlessly chic ensemble that is relaxed and easy to throw on. Made of a soft woven tencel blend, the strapless top’s asymmetrical hem elegantly flows over the loose matching pants, which have a slightly flared shape. The essence of the look is casual, but it can be easily dressed up with some statement jewelry and a pair of cool kitten heels.

Dissh

Maison Ramie bias maxi skirt and Tahlia Rami top

If you love a linen dress in the summer, then might I suggest an airy linen maxi skirt ensemble like this one from Dissh? This style takes the casual matching set to the next level with its crisp ramie fabrication and detailed tank, which features a V-neckline and tucked pleats that add elegant texture to the top. Meanwhile, the bias-cut skirt has an easy, relaxed silhouette (perfect for vacation lounging or beachside activities). And the best part? Both the top and skirt are adjustable for maximum comfort.

Gap

Linen-blend lace-trimmed cami and shorts

If you love the look of lace-trimmed silk, then you’re sure to be a fan of this linen and lace set from Gap. This elegant and ethereal set in Sail Blue is the essence of a Riviera beach walk or a warm Cape Cod boating day. Made of a soft linen blend, the V-neck tank features a pristine lace-trimmed split hem that layers delicately over the set’s slip-on elastic waist skirt. For those who aren’t sold on the skirt, try the equally charming lace-trimmed PJ-style shorts, shown above.

Staud

Corinna top and Renzo pant

For a different take on a summer lace set, try this lightweight tank and pant combo from Staud. The dainty voile and lace panel tank perfectly pairs with the brand’s relaxed balloon-leg pant, equipped with a delicate pointelle lace hem with beautiful movement (ideal for those soft beach breezes). Like the tank, the pants are easy to wear with a simple drawstring waist and are an elevated casual option for those days when you want to level up your more basic daytime looks.

J.Crew

Scallop-trim crochet top and skirt

Looking for a knit set that can go from the beach to the pool into town? Look no further than this cute crochet cardigan and skirt set from J.Crew. The set, available in ivory or black-and-white stripe, features a dainty scalloped trim on the hem of the open front of the cardigan as well as the skirt, and is made of a breezy open-knit stitch for a semi-transparent beachy look that shows off your colorful swimwear. Wear the set as a cover-up for daytime beach-to-pool activities or layer the cardigan over a tank as a light jacket for breezy evenings.

Peixoto

Amelia top and Riley maxi skirt

This honeycomb yellow tank and skirt set from It-girl brand Peixoto gives pretty prairie promenade vibes—ideal for those sunny summer days wandering the grounds of a historic French chateau or galavanting through a rustic Italian vineyard. The ruched top features a frilly, cinched waist design that pairs perfectly with the matching tiered peasant-style skirt. The set, which also comes in white and pairs well with everything from heeled sandals to woven flats and sneakers, is a versatile ensemble that can go from land and sea excursions to a casual night on the town.

Banana Republic

Linen double tie tank and linen tiered skirt

For a less fitted, more roomy skirt set option, I love this flowy, all-white look from Banana Republic. The set, which also comes in black, features an oversized crewneck top with side-tie accents and a tiered skirt, equipped with matching side ties and an airy side split. The flowing skirt also has side-seam pockets, which, let’s be real, is always the best part of any skirt or dress when you’re out and about.

Cult Gaia

Rhett top and Kaliluna pant

Heading to Cannes or Saint-Tropez this season? Be Riveria-ready in this sophisticated Cult Gaia set. As a lover of vintage ensembles, I’m obsessed with the Old Hollywood allure of this thick-striped silk set. The fitted, brown-and-white strapless top with the flowy, wide-leg pants is the epitome of effortless Audrey Hepburn meets Elizabeth Taylor–era glam. Pair the set with an oversized straw tote and a floppy beach hat, and you’ve got yourself an A-list vacation look.

Dissh

Vanessa cami top and pant

If stripes aren’t your thing, maybe polka dots are. I love everything about this breezy, semi-sheer, spot print set from Dissh. Featuring a billowing tank with deep side slits and matching straight-leg pants, this is the perfect set to pack for your summer vacation. And, if you want to take the look to the next level, check out the matching midi skirt, which can be paired with the tank or even worn over the pants like a strapless tunic top.

Alémais

Splice crop top and midi skirt

No one does resortwear quite like Alemais. Whether you’re heading to a tropical island or cruising along the Mediterranean coast, you’ll look like a destination dream in this Splice crop top and matching skirt set. From the gathered hemline detail to the rich hues, everything about this colorful look says resort chic. Pair the outfit with flat sandals for daytime adventures or dress it up with accent gold jewelry and wedges for a whimsical evening excursion.

Quince

Linen vest and pants

If you’re interested in a linen look with a bit of structure, Quince has you covered with this two-piece vest and pant set. The sleek, button-down vest is more refined than your average linen basic, and can be worn on its own or layered over a simple top. The clean cut, ankle-cropped pants feature an elastic waistband and not one, not two, but four pockets! With pants like these, who needs a purse?

Everlane

Scalloped-edged tank and shorts

You can’t go wrong with linen from Everlane—and I say this as someone who happens to own quite a bit of it. But for this year, I have my eye on a new linen look from the brand. This cute set features a sleeveless, tie-front vest with matching shorts. Made from the brand’s best-selling breathable linen, the set is cool and casual, with an air of fancy femininity thanks to the stylish scallop detailing along the top’s cut-away front and the shorts’ hem.

As a native Floridian and former cruise ship crew member, I’ve spent years experimenting with what to wear in the heat and humidity. Contrary to the stereotypes, flip-flops and a Hawaiian T-shirt won’t always cut it. After many seasons dressing for equatorial zones, I’ve picked up a few wardrobe rules that keep me comfortable on long summer days that melt into warm nights.

My first tip? Before you start packing your suitcase for your next hot-weather trip, look closely at the labels of your clothing. Polyester and plastic fabrics will not be your friend (nor the planet’s). Instead, reach for natural fibers, like linen, silk, cotton, and, surprisingly, wool. These fabrics should feel lightweight to the touch and ideally be light-colored (white, cream, beige) in order to reflect the sun’s rays rather than absorb them. And it’s not just about what you wear that’s important. I also keep a few key accessories in my bag that can cool me down midday when I need relief the most.

This hot-weather packing guide is filled with neutral pieces that are easy to mix and match, each worthy of precious space in your carry-on if you’re traveling light. Keep reading to learn which garments and gear will equip you for comfort from day to night, without sacrificing style.

Lightweight linen tops

Linen is an all-natural fabric made of flax fibers spun into yarn. Compared to some synthetic fabrics, linen has an open weave, which makes it breathable, fast-drying, and fantastic for hot weather, as sweat needs to evaporate from your skin to keep you cool. There’s a reason 100% linen is a popular choice in locales like Provence in the summer. I like to wear light-colored linen tops because they are best at hiding underarm and back sweat, but you can’t go wrong with matching linen sets, which look effortlessly pulled together. I always pack a long-sleeve linen shirt on every trip, even to the hottest destinations. It comes in handy when I need to cover my shoulders to enter religious sites, and to shield my skin from the sun without getting overheated.
