The Best Luggage on Amazon, According to Our Editors and Thousands of Reviews

Every traveler needs durable, reliable luggage that will last—a piece that breaks after one run-in with the airport’s baggage carousel won’t cut it. Quality luggage usually comes with a hefty price tag, but luckily, some of the best luggage on Amazon is affordable and built to withstand years-worth of wear and tear. Not to mention, Prime members are eligible for free two-day shipping, meaning if you leave packing to the very last minute or wind up on vacation with a set of wheels broken beyond repair, Amazon has you covered.

To put together this list, we searched long and hard to find the very best luggage on Amazon; we read hundreds of reviews, compared ratings, and had our editors test some bestsellers for themselves to determine what pieces are actually worth it. Below, we rounded up our top Amazon luggage—carry-ons, checked bags, suitcase sets, weekenders, and backpacks for every type of traveler and every type of journey. Whether you’re a frequent flier or an occasional road tripper, there’s great luggage to add to your collection, from popular brands like American Tourister, Samsonite, Travelpro, and more.

Shop the best luggage on Amazon:

The best carry-ons

Carry-ons are one of the most essential pieces of luggage in any traveler’s collection, so we made sure to include some editor-tested favorites below, like the Travelpro Maxlite Air carry-on and the Amazon Basics carry-on. Associate social media manager Kayla Brock swears by Travelpro’s carry-on: “Out of all the suitcases I have this is my absolute favorite and without a doubt the one that I take with me on a trip.” She has brought it on trips as long as three weeks and was able to fit everything she needed. Amazon’s very own Basics carry-on is a go-to for me. What I love most is that it’s expandable, so just when I think I’ve run out of room, I haven’t. I also like the $70 price tag—I’ve tried out carry-ons triple the price that aren’t as durable as this one.

Another one of our editors’ favorite carry-ons: Travelpro’s Crew Max carry-on and the brand’s rolling garment bag, the latter of which is ideal for a destination wedding when you need to pack formal dresses or suits. Best-selling carry-ons from SwissGear and Samsonite have racked up thousands of glowing reviews and make them well worth a spot on our list.

Travelpro Maxlite Air Carry-On

Associate social media manager Kayla Brock recommends this expandable roller for three to four day trips. “The first thing I loved about this luggage was the combination lock on the outside of the case. Whenever I traveled, I would place a small lock on my carry-on and keep the key on me, constantly paranoid that I was going to lose it. Now, I don’t have to worry about that.” Brock is also a fan of the mesh zip compartment and zip-lock compartments inside, which make organizing clothes, accessories, and toiletries simple. “Although it originally looks like my clothes wouldn’t fit (I’m guilty of overpacking), the suitcase closed with ease.”

Travelpro Platinum Elite carry-on rolling garment bag

While smaller than an average carry-on, garment bags really prove their worth on business trips and wedding travel. “Yes, this bag glides seamlessly through airports and is incredibly durable thanks to its nylon fabric with Duraguard coating, but the lay-flat garment bag design is the real gem of this carry-on,” global associate director of audience development Lara Kramer says. “It holds way more than you think—and arriving with all of your dresses and shirts wrinkle-free is a huge game changer.”

Amazon Basics Carry-On

This hardside carry-on with spinner wheels and a built-in TSA lock has racked up rave reviews on Amazon, like this one: “It fit an odd amount of stuff in it. It’s like a clown car. It has compartments and zippers that keep things separate and organized. It holds up well and is really good looking. It’s absolutely worth every penny. I’m purchasing more for the rest of the family.” Traveler editor Meaghan Kenny agrees, calling it an overpacker’s dream bag.

The best checked luggage

For longer trips, you’ll need a durable checked bag that can fit a whole lot and stay intact after it makes its way through airport security. This can be hard to find, and given their size, checked suitcases tend to be the most expensive piece of luggage you’ll buy. But you can find well-priced, high-quality soft-side and hard-side suitcases on Amazon from American Tourister, Samsonsite, SwissGear, Rockland, and more. Samsonite’s Omni PC expandable spinner has over 26,000 ratings with an impressive average of 4.5 stars. The brand’s Freeform expandable spinner is a bestseller on Amazon, with reviewers raving about its mobility, lightweight feel, and ease of zipping.

If you are willing to splurge, Traveler’s research director Alex Sanidad recommends Tumi’s Extended Trip expandable case for cross-country trips or longer vacations. The soft-sided suitcase has space to “bring enough clothing for a month without having to wash anything,” says Sanidad. It’s pricey, but its large capacity, smooth-gliding zippers, removable garment sleeve, hanger bracket, and telescopic handle that doesn’t stick makes it stand out.

The best luggage sets

One of the best ways to save while upgrading your travel gear is to opt for a luggage set. Amazon offers hundreds of two-, three-, and four-piece sets of carry-ons and checked bags. For maximum value, Coolife’s four-piece hardshell set is a smart choice, coming in at just $200. It has racked up over 28,000 ratings on Amazon with an average of 4.6 stars. Showkoo’s three-piece set has also earned an impressive number of ratings and stellar reviews. The set is available in over a dozen fun colorways, like mint green, magenta, yellow, lavender, and blue, so you don’t have to worry about struggling to find your suitcase in a sea of black bags at baggage claim.

The best weekenders

Weekend getaways call for a lightweight duffel bag that’s easy to carry and can hold a few outfits and travel essentials. The best weekender bags have smart features like a separate shoe compartment; thick, adjustable straps; and interior pockets that hold small essentials. These options below all fit the bill, and look just as good as the more expensive alternatives on the market.
