The Reserve by Citi Travel: What It Is and How It Works

Citi cardholders seeking a high-end travel experience may want to book their next hotel stay through Citi’s own travel portal. The most exclusive properties are a part of The Reserve, formerly known as the Luxury Collection, and can be accessed only by holding certain Citi credit cards.

Here’s what you need to know about The Reserve.

The Reserve by Citi Travel: The Basics

NerdWallet rating

NerdWallet’s ratings are determined by our editorial team. The scoring formula incorporates coverage options, customer experience, customizability, cost and more.

The Reserve is a separate collection of hotels that may be booked through Citi’s travel portal. As the name suggests, The Reserve contains only 4.5- and 5-star hotels and resorts such as Viceroy Riviera Maya and Halekulani, On the Beach at Waikiki.

The Reserve hotels are only available for booking if you have the following Citi cards:

Hotel stays booked through The Reserve come with the following complimentary benefits:

  • A $100 experience credit for on-property purchases such as food and spa treatments.

  • Early check-in and late checkout when available.

  • Room upgrades when available.

Note that the services that qualify for the experience credit will vary by hotel. Any unused balance will be forfeited.

How to book a hotel through The Reserve

Follow these steps to score your next luxurious hotel stay.

  1. Log in to Citi’s travel portal at cititravel.com or within Citi’s mobile app.

  2. Input your destination, travel dates, number of guests and number of rooms.

  3. Once the results have populated, look for hotels that have The Reserve tag. Be sure to select the room rate that corresponds to The Reserve.

  4. Pay for your hotel stay with cash, ThankYou Points, or a combination of the two.

If you pay for the hotel with the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card, you’ll earn 12 ThankYou points per $1 spent. The rate is 10 ThankYou points per $1 if you have the Citi Strata Premier® Card, but you’ll get just 3x points on hotel bookings with the Citi Prestige® Card.

Information about the Citi Prestige® Card has been collected by NerdWallet and has not been reviewed or provided by the issuer of this card.
