It’s a good time to be Neil Gaiman. The Starz adaptation of his apocalyptic road-trip novel American Gods may have fizzled out, but he’s since struck lightning twice, scoring second season pickups for both The Sandman (on Netflix), with new episodes expected next year; and Good Omens (on Prime Video), returning July 28. That second one is all the more notable considering the first season already adapted the source material, the 1990 novel Gaiman co-write with the late Terry Pratchett.
Gaiman and Pratchett long hoped to write a sequel to the novel about an angel and a demon who fall in love with life on Earth and decide to work together to prevent the end times. But the book never came together, and Pratchett’s 2015 death due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease seemed to seal its fate. But the critical and audience success that greeted Prime Video’s 2019 adaptation of the first book (for which Gaiman took the reins creatively) inspired a second coming. The trailer promises a second apocalypse is nigh, even as things are heating up in the eons-long romance between Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant).

Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin (July 25), a new season of The Summer I Turned Pretty (July 14), and the darkly comedic horror series The Horror of Dolores Roach (July 7), based on the podcast.
