Position Title: Assistant Director, Career Development and Coaching (Career Education and Social Impact).
Department: The Piper Center for Vocation and Career.
Classification: Exempt.
FTE: 0.92.
Work Schedule: September – May, 40 hours per week, hours to be worked between Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; June – August, 35 hours to be worked, flexible schedule, must be approved by supervisor; travel up to 5% of the work schedule, which includes local (Twin Cities metro area) and national travel; overnight trips average 1-2 trips per year.
Work Location: Hybrid. On campus 4 days, WFH 1. Will work on campus fully for the first three months.
Salary Range: $48,000 – $53,000.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide comprehensive career coaching for students with special emphasis on the following coaching areas: undecided/exploring, social impact, education, government, social services, public health, and post-graduate service. Provide intentional coaching support and outreach to students studying the humanities.
- Provide high levels of one-one coaching, assisting students with strategies for career exploration, internship and job searching and networking, as well as resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, etc. Administer and interpret career assessments as needed.
- Identify and market opportunities for students to develop core professional competencies related to coaching areas.
- Partner with and learn from alumni and employers to facilitate meaningful opportunities for students.
- Develop, manage, and execute a wide range of career and vocational program offerings pertaining to coaching areas.
- Develop and deliver engaging presentations and workshops.
- Develop, coordinate and market events such as alumni panels, workshops, classroom presentations and alumni/employer information sessions.
- Facilitate career workshops and programming for students from underrepresented backgrounds. Collaborate with campus partners such as TRIO, Posse, Disability and Access Services and the Taylor Center for Equity and Inclusion to develop and support programming.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff colleagues, including faculty teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities, and staff in the Svoboda Center for Civic Engagement and the Lutheran Center for Faith, Values and Community.
- Manage the Social Impact Scholars summer cohort internship program, including marketing, employer development, application, and selection process. Collaborate with St. Olaf colleagues and alumni to facilitate leadership development and vocational discernment within the program.
- Support the development and delivery of a robust student employment development program, leading relevant workshops for St. Olaf student staff, e.g., connecting student employment experiences to NACE competencies/transferable skill building, group interpretation of StrengthsFinder, helping students articulate skills/work study experiences in resumes, interviews, etc.
- Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
- Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- Reports to the Senior Associate Director, Career Development, Data and Operations.
- This position does not supervise anyone.

- 3+ years’ experience in higher education, coaching or advising, counseling, or nonprofits with experience in program, project, or event management and in career or leadership development.

- Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, nonprofit management, public policy, or a related field.
