Position Summary
The Career and Academic Pathways Advisor serves as a professional support team member within
the Office of Career Pathways, supporting students in academic planning, assisting students in career exploration, career readiness,
experiential learning, and professional development. Reporting to the Director of Career Pathways and collaborating closely with the
Director of Academic Advising, this role provides individualized career coaching support, facilitates workshops and programming, assists
with employer engagement initiatives, and helps supervise and mentor Peer Career Mentors.
The Advisor assists students with academic
and career decision-making, course planning, experiential learning opportunities, and professional preparation while contributing to student
success, retention, persistence, and post-graduate outcomes. The position also supports university-wide recruitment and retention
initiatives, including orientation and student success programming.
The Advisor plays an important role in helping students develop
the confidence, skills, and experiences necessary to pursue careers of choice, not jobs of necessity.

Responsibilities
- Career Pathways Advising:
- Provide one-on-one support to students related to:
- Resume and cover
letter development - Internship and job search strategies
- LinkedIn and professional branding
- Interview preparation and
mock interviews - Career exploration and experiential learning opportunities
- Resume and cover
- Provide one-on-one support to students related to:
- Academic Advising and Student
Success:- Assist students in developing educational plans and selecting courses aligned with degree requirements and career
goals - Support students in exploring academic majors and career pathways
- Provide academic advising and student success
support through in-person, virtual, and electronic communication methods - Guide students through registration and schedule planning
using Workday Student - Support orientation, recruitment, retention, and other student success initiatives
- Assist students in developing educational plans and selecting courses aligned with degree requirements and career
- Assist
with the implementation of Career Pathways programming, including:- Career Fairs, Employer Panels, Professionalism Workshops,
Networking Events, Classroom Presentations, Student Success and Career Readiness Programming
- Career Fairs, Employer Panels, Professionalism Workshops,
- Support students using career
and advising platforms and tools including:- Workday Student, LinkedIn, Handshake, Focus 2, Forage, Parker
Dewey
- Workday Student, LinkedIn, Handshake, Focus 2, Forage, Parker
- Assist in tracking student engagement, appointments, experiential learning participation, and advising
interactions - Help train, mentor, and provide leadership support to Peer Career Mentors
- Represent the Office of Career
Pathways at campus events and employer engagement activities - Assist with marketing and communication efforts, including social
media, newsletters, and promotional materials - Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the Director and
Associate Director and in collaboration with the Director of Academic Advising
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
required - Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Passion for student development, career readiness, and
workforce preparation - Ability to build relationships with students, faculty, staff, and employers
- Strong organizational and
customer service skills - Experience with mentoring, leadership, coaching, or student engagement
- Familiarity with career
development platforms, student information systems, and Microsoft Office - Experience with Workday Student or similar student
systems
Work Environment
This position works collaboratively within the Office of Career Pathways and Academic
Advising to support holistic student success. The role may require occasional evening or campus-wide events related to employer engagement,
career education, and student success initiatives.
