Countries With Digital Nomad Visas 2025: Top Programs for Americans

As more companies institute return to office policies, it may seem like the heyday of digital nomadism is over. If you belong to the portion of Americans who continue to work remotely, though, why not choose to log on from the charming cafés of Berlin and Lisbon, or perhaps a beach along the Uruguayan or Maltese coast? With more and more countries offering official visas for international remote workers, it’s now easier than ever to live and work abroad without giving up your 9-to-5 (just don’t forget to clock in).

Digital nomad visas generally function like extended tourist visas for remote workers, with most covering stays between six months and one year. Although some countries popular among American expats, like Mexico, have seen recent bouts of protest and disapproval from priced-out locals, the competition over global talent and the economic stimulation they bring remains high—meaning these visas are often easy to acquire if you know where to look. Since each country’s program has its own quirks and specificities, we turned to Global Citizen Solutions (GCS), a consultation firm that specializes in navigating international visa and citizenship processes.

In their 2025 Global Digital Nomad Report, GCS has ranked the top visas for American remote workers, including who is eligible and how to apply. The report provides a comprehensive cross-analysis of metrics like the application procedure, pathways to citizenship, mobility of travel, tax optimization, economics, quality of life, and tech and innovation within the host country. As with last year, Europe dominates the list, but with new countries in South America and the Middle East cracking the top 10 this year, there’s something for everyone. Here, we provide the full list of the 64 countries with active digital nomad visas, as well as a breakdown of the top 10 programs for Americans.
