Why we love it: Na Kampě Square Christmas market is located on Kampa Island, just below the Charles Bridge, where you can get scenic views of the Vltava River and Prague Castle across the water. The market itself is small and intimate, away from the crowds and main thoroughfare, which is why it’s also nicknamed the “Little Christmas Market.” It feels a lot cozier, and more local, focusing on hot drinks like mulled wine, punch, and hot chocolate, as well as seasonal treats like roasted chestnuts, trdelník (chimney cakes), and lokše (potato pancakes). You can stop by Na Kampě Square if you’re already in the Malá Strana area, or walking the Charles Bridge. Grab a snack or beverage and take in the riverside views.

Peace Square (Náměstí Míru) Market

Why we love it: The Christmas market at Peace Square is one of the first markets to run during the season, opening in November. It’s parked right in front of the neo-Gothic Church of St. Ludmila, providing a similarly elegant backdrop to the Old Town Square Market, but without the big crowds. The atmosphere at Peace Square is a lot more relaxed, and much less touristy, so you can expect to see more authentic crafts, works of art, and goods, as well as a diverse representation of Czech holiday fare. After stopping by the market, it’s also worth exploring the Vinohrady district, with its charming tree-lined streets, Art Nouveau architecture, as well as contemporary shops and cafés.

Havel’s Market (Havelské tržiště)

Why we love it: Havel’s Market is one of Prague’s oldest markets, having been established since 1232. It’s a permanent, open-air market where local vendors sell fruits, vegetables, and local goods year-round, which simply transforms to become a bit more festive for the holidays beginning December. The ever-essential fresh produce stalls remain, but some seasonal items appear, as well as a few stalls for wooden toys, ornaments, and souvenirs. Havel’s is very conveniently located between Old Town & Wenceslas, so if you plan on hopping from one major Christmas market to the other, it’s a short and easy stop along the way.
