What to Know About TSA's New Touchless ID Lanes: How to Sign Up and Where to Find Them

TSA has completed the first phase of its Touchless ID expansion, which means the facial recognition technology is now available at 40 airports across the US. The latest airports to be equipped with the special security lanes include Miami International Airport (MIA), Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), and California’s San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC).

The program eliminates the need to show a physical ID or boarding pass at TSA security checkpoints, using facial recognition technology to verify travelers’ identities. The optional program is reserved for TSA PreCheck passengers who have opted in to use the facial recognition tech with their airline (more on how to do that below).

After enrolling, passengers have access to a special Touchless ID lane at participating TSA checkpoints. When it’s their turn, fliers step up to the kiosk where the TSA officer is, pause for a moment to look at the camera, and continue through to the screening area after a positive facial scan result. On average the process takes 10 seconds or less, according to the TSA. American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta, Southwest, and United all participate.

Which US airports have Touchless ID lanes?

As of February 12, 2026, Touchless ID is available at 40 airports across the US. The program’s expansion, an initiative announced by TSA earlier this year, is now about halfway complete.

In January, the security agency said it would expand the facial recognition technology from its initial 15 launch airports to a total of 65 US airports. So far this year, TSA has added Touchless ID capabilities to 25 additional airports, including major hubs like Honolulu (HNL) and Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT), as well as smaller airports, like St. Louis (STL) and San Antonio, Texas (SAT).

The agency is currently in the process of adding the technology to 25 more airports. “We are targeting to have all 65 locations up and running with TSA PreCheck Touchless ID this spring, ahead of the busy summer travel season,” a TSA spokesperson tells Condé Nast Traveler.
