Alternative investment manager Ares has appointed Peter Ogilvie as its new chief operating officer and head of strategy.
He will be responsible for scaling some of Ares’ key global operating capabilities and will support the leadership team in executing the firm’s strategic growth initiatives.
The appointment represents an internal promotion, with Ogilvie previously serving as partner and head of the firm’s corporate strategy group. Ogilvie joined Ares in 2007 on the direct lending team and became instrumental in several of the firm’s acquisitions, including Allied Capital, American Capital, Black Creek Group, Landmark Partners and GCP International.

Ares manages approximately $623bn (£461.3bn) of assets under management, with operations across North America, South America, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
Prior to joining Ares, Ogilvie worked in the leveraged finance and restructuring group at Credit Suisse.
