Long before the rise of athleisure, when brands hawking leggings and athleticwear seemed to grow by the minute, there was Nike. Opened out of Eugene, Oregon, in 1964 by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, the brand has evolved from making shoes for pro athletes to making athletic shoes, apparel, and bags for everyone. The Nike Swoosh is recognizable worldwide, and you’d be hard-pressed to walk through a major city without spotting it on a shoe, T-shirt, or hat. I ran the New York City Marathon in a pair of Nikes, and regularly exercise in its bike shorts (Nike, if you’re reading this, please bring back this Nike One pair!). And while Nike’s gear is fairly affordable, especially compared to some of the newer brands out there, it never hurts to save a few dollars where you can. Read on for ways to save on your next purchase—and the one after that.
Score 10% off with Nike student and professional discount codes
High school and college students in the US (ages 16 and up) can take advantage of a 10% discount code on a single order. Verification is handled through SheerID, and once verified, you’ll receive a one-time-use Nike promo code that can be used on most items at Nike.com—some exclusions apply, particularly on hot sneaker launches.
First responders and medical professionals (doctors, nurses, and EMTs) are eligible for a 10% discount too. Similarly, you’ll need to verify your professional status via SheerID to claim your Nike discount code. Also of note, each code expires two weeks after it’s issued, so it’s best to wait until you’re ready to make purchase to request one. Teachers, you’re eligible for savings, too: Accredited K-12 teachers, faculty, and university staff in the US are eligible for a 10% discount, once again verification through SheerID is required to generate your unique Nike voucher code. A military discount is available for both personnel and families, with active duty, veterans, reservists, and retired US military personnel, as well as their families, eligible for 10% off once verified via SheerID.
It’s worth noting that all of these codes can only be redeemed on Nike.com or in the Nike App, not in stores. Also, while each code is good for a single use, members of any of these groups can request another one after seven days.
Claim a 10% birthday discount during your special month
This is a good tip for any Nike shopper—during your birthday month, you can get a 10% discount just by joining the Nike Membership program, which is free to sign up for. (Just be sure to do so before your actual birthday; if not, you’ll have to wait for the next one to roll around.) The discount is typically sent via email, and will also appear in the Nike App “Inbox” at the start of your birth month. It’s good for 60 days, and unlike the promo codes above, this Nike coupon can be used on Nike.com and in-store at Nike branded locations, so if you need to try something on, you can still walk out of the store with it and take advantage of the birthday discount.
How to unlock free shipping at Nike
There’s no need to hunt around for Nike free shipping codes—simply sign up for a free Nike Membership account and you’ll receive free standard shipping on orders of $50 or more. (Guests get free shipping for orders over $75, but there’s no downside to signing up, especially if your order is on the smaller size.) Membership also comes with access to Nike’s 60-day “wear test” return policy, allowing you to return worn gear—even shoes!—if they don’t fit your needs.
