Global entry renewal is also a smart option for business travelers and corporate employees who have their Known Traveler Number (KTN), also known as PASSID, tied to their company bookings should also renew to avoid hiccups, she notes. Additionally, those who have credit cards that reimburse the Global Entry fee should opt for renewal, less they leave money on the table.

People who find that they don’t often travel internationally may prefer to skip the process, as well as “individuals who have incurred recent legal or immigration issues since first applying,” she says.

How much does it cost to renew Global Entry?

The Global Entry fee is currently $120 for five years.

How far in advance can you renew Global Entry?

Global Entry is part of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP)‘s Trusted Travel Program (TTP) and lasts five years, with the option to begin the renewal process up to one year before expiration. “The biggest mistake people make is waiting until their membership actually expires, which causes a lapse in benefits and unnecessary delays,” says Chip Lupo, a Wallethub analyst and personal finance writer.

Even if you can’t schedule your Global Entry interview before your membership expires, receiving conditional approval via the online renewal form allows you to keep using the benefits for 24 months after the expiration date. During this generous two-year grace period, Leon recommends “keeping proof of pending status when traveling internationally.”

What is the Global Entry renewal process?

Global Entry members can renew via the TTP site at ttp.dhs.gov. First, log in using a login.gov account. If you don’t already have one, you can create a profile using your KTN or PASSID membership number. Double check that the website is the exact right one with .gov at the end, Leon cautions, as some fake sites do exist.

From the dashboard, select the “Renew” option and declare your citizenship. Then select the program you’d like to renew and follow the guidelines on the membership renewal page. After all the information has been updated and checked, a “Certify” page will pop up. After answering “Yes” there and submitting an online payment, the renewal will enter the queue and you’ll be returned to the dashboard.
