A motoring influencer has revealed her three simple steps for saving hundreds of pounds on car insurance.

The cost of maintaining and insuring a car is on the rise with the average driver now paying £776, according to confused.com.

Motor cover has risen in price by 18 per cent in the last three months, making it one of the most expensive household bills according to the website.

Luckily, Abigayle André from She Talks Cars shared the tricks to her TikTok followers and revealed how to make the most out of your money.

A car expert has revealed how to save hundreds on your car insurance by following these simple tips

The money saving expert advised various tricks on how to drive the price down, including buying in advance and paying in full

The money saving expert advised various tricks on how to drive the price down, including buying in advance and paying in full

Firstly, she advised buying your insurance in advance, she explained that the sweet spot is 23 to 26 days before, she added: ‘The longer you leave it, the more you’re going to pay.’

The money saving whizz also advised adding a named driver on your car insurance, and suggested experimenting with different people.

She said: ‘Sometimes you’d be surprised a learner driver can even bring your car insurance down.’

On the same note, Abigayle said you could look to see if another car in your household has a multi-car policy on their own insurance. She said: ‘It might save you some money.’

According to Abigayle, where you park might also bump up the price on your quote.

‘You might think that it’s cheaper to park in your garage. It’s not always true, try parking on the road and see how that changes things,’ she explained.

Picking the right job title may also drive the price down, while Abigayle explained you should never lie on the form, she said you can be careful when selecting the correct title.

She advised: ‘Use the job picking tool from Money Saving Expert that suits what you do, so it’s not lying, but it’s cheaper.’

Small altercations on your application can work wonders, even adding your driving license number could reduce the price by £20.

Abigayle said: ‘It saved me £20 and it’s better to be £20 in your pocket than in someone else’s.’

The car expert explained, it’s always a good idea to shop around before you commit to an insurance plan.

‘I would always get as many quotes as possible with the same level of cover so I know I’m getting the best price,’ she said.

‘I know it’s a bit of leg work but you’ve got to work to save money,’ Abigayle added.

Similarly, paying the full cost up front rather than in installments could save you the hassle of interest payments.

Firms can charge interest on monthly installments and this could bump up your annual bill.

However, Abigayle recognised that paying the total may not be possible for everyone, she said: ‘But if you can pay it in one go, it’s always cheaper, by hundreds because you’re paying no interest.’

TikToker’s were grateful for Abigayle’s advice and flooded the comments with praise.

One said: ‘Great tip about driving licence.’ Another added: ‘Wish I saw this a week ago. I paid £550 last year, £750 this year.’

Another commented: ‘Best advice. Buy the car after the insurance. Find a car that’s cheap on insurance then get that.’

And Abigayle agreed: ‘Always look at car insurance first for sure!’
