Dear Quentin,
I am a CFP and play golf so that I can meet people. And so, I read your article with interest (“
My golf buddy dropped me when I didn’t make him my financial adviser. Be careful who you trust”). Of course, I would love to develop working relationships with almost everyone I play golf with, but I am not a big sales guy.
I genuinely love charity events where I can either meet people (when playing by myself) or take a foursome out for a great cause. I simply have the attitude that if I meet great people who become friends, hopefully they will become clients. However, if I meet people who become friends but not clients, then that is all right as well.
