Financial services industry expert Setul Mehta has launched a social media management company dedicated to supporting the UK advisory community.
Mehta, one of the financial services industry’s most decorated leaders, will bring his vast experience of sales, marketing and governance to support sole traders, advisers and business owners.
The new firm, SM Advice, seeks to empower financial advisers across the UK to engage with clients across social media platforms by creating content that informs, educates and celebrates.
The content will address key financial topics such as guidance on financial planning for first-time job holders or renters needing protection, mortgage journeys, investments, pensions, maximising retirement funds, utilising tax allowances and will meet all compliance points.
Celebration content covers testimonials, exam passes, new joiners to awareness day recognition.
SM Advice, which already works with several networks, also aims to bridge the advice gap and enhance financial education in line with the efforts of the Consumer Duty Alliance.
Setul Mehta, founder of SM Advice said: “With nearly 40,000 advisers across the UK, the potential to provide essential financial education within the industry and beyond is huge. However, many advisers are not fully utilising the power of social media to be able to do this. For many this is because they lack the time or do not have the resources to hand. This is where SM Advice can help.”
Commenting on the project, Keith Richards, chief executive Consumer Duty Alliance, said: “The new service is very timely and much needed as the use of social media can also help to evidence adoption and culture towards consumer duty obligations and commitment.”
Steve Bartholomew, chief executive St Barts Finance, commented: “Visibility on social media is a business hygiene in today’s world, SM Advice provide us with a trusted outlet for content creation, timely posting and handling the approval process enabling St Barts Finance to have a professional and engaging presence. This in turn allows me to focus on what I do best – running my business and ultimately helping clients.”
Ian Mckenna, founder of Protection Guru added: “In the last couple of years we have seen very different behaviour for advisers when it comes to social media. Some have embraced it and found it a great way to grow business, but far more firms have not yet done so for a variety of reasons.
“Many advisers prefer to focus on what they excel at, but they should not ignore social media. Setul has a very rare mix of skills having worked on both sides of the market and is ideally placed to help advisers meet the challenges of building an effective social media presence for them while the advice firm sticks to their core skills.”
