Job Description:
Under the
direction of the Director of Advising, Center for Career and Professional Development, the Career Advisor works collaboratively with
internal and external stakeholders to effectively deliver comprehensive career services to currently enrolled students across a variety of
schools.
Career Advising
Advise assigned student and/or alumni about career related topics, such as exploring
majors/careers, resume and cover letter development, job and internship search strategies, interview skills, etc. via face-to-face, phone or
Skype like interactions.
Serve as a primary Student Relations Team liaison with the Experiential Learning program.
Offer
cohesive services and support to students exploring and participating in experiential learning initiatives.
Outreach to students
across schools and majors, providing information about opportunities, supports and programming
Administer career assessments to
students and alumni for the purpose of career interest exploration and/or affirmation.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Initiatives
Lead career and professional program for affinity groups and various identity groups across campus e.g. Students
of Color, Queer and Trans, First Generation, Women in the Workplace, Students with Disabilities, and work closely with strategic partners
on-campus.
Support underrepresented students in their career education by engaging a network of alumni career mentors together with
internal and Division partners.
Other Instruction and Programming
Collaborate with other University offices on
programming.
Assist in sharing, managing and developing online platform/content.
Facilitate targeted presentations
throughout the campus for faculty and staff.
Support planning and execution of large-scale events on campus, such as Career Week(s)
Programs and Career Fairs.
Establish relationships with student clubs and organizations to secure co-sponsorship opportunities and
bolster student attendance at events.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Three
years experience in advising, working directly with students, a career services organization or Human Resources.
Ability to counsel
and support students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Knowledge of cooperative education and/or career development and
automated databases.
Knowledge of professional ethics and standards as noted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
Professional skills demonstrated by collegiality, willingness to collaborate across the institution and outside of it, providing
exceptional customer service to all constituents.
Must be able to attend regional and national conferences and workshops.
Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking.
Marketing and social media savvy with proven
portfolio of work.
Ability to consistently meet goals and deadlines demonstrated by excellent time management skills and ability to
prioritize multiple projects.
Ability to work independently, with little supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent
interpersonal skills, ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals in a service environment.
Ability to function
effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Advanced computer skills, ability to research, collect, organize and maintain accurate
records/data from a variety of computer databases.
Willingness to attend professional development meetings, conferences, employers
and more, sometimes requiring travel and overnight stays.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field.
Three to five years experience
within a career office in a higher education setting.
Skills Assessments – MBTI, strong Interest Inventory, strengths and/or other
career assessment tools.
At the University’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the
candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically
preparing the candidate for success in the position.
