Department: Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law
Location: Brookdale Center, 55 Fifth Avenue, NY, NY
Categories: Clerical, Legal

Position Summary:

The Experiential Program Manager plays a critical role in overseeing Cardozo Law School’s expansive clinical and externship programs, where students gain real-world legal training by representing clients, shaping policy, and promoting community education. The program manager facilitates technological support and communications to enhance experiential learning and takes ownership of key programmatic processes that sustain Cardozo’s dynamic clinical and externship programs.

This role provides comprehensive operational support to Cardozo’s clinical and externship faculty and staff, while serving as a primary point of contact for law students and supervising attorneys regarding their participation in clinical and externship programs. In addition to building and managing program databases and disseminating reporting to relevant stakeholders, the program manager has primary responsibility for application and registration processes, organizes events like the Clinic Fair, and collaborates with staff to streamline administrative workflow for Cardozo’s in-house clinics. The program manager has similar responsibility for Cardozo’s field clinics, which partner with leading nonprofit and government organizations across New York City, and for externships, which pair substantive, public or private sector legal work with a co-requisite seminar to enhance students’ professional development.

The clinical and externship programs are seeking a highly skilled program manager with advanced technical abilities and communication skills. The program manager role is ideal for a data-oriented and proactive individual passionate about social justice and the law. Strong interpersonal and technological abilities are required, along with flexibility, sound judgment, and attention to detail, as well as a positive, collaborative attitude and ability to build relationships with a wide range of constituents. Dedication to professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role.

    • Receiving, processing, and distributing applications to faculty.
    • Matching students with clinics based on a ranking system.

  • Collect and organize required documentation across concurrent workflows.
  • Assist with everyday administrative tasks as needed and/or when members of our small staff are out of the office.

Complex Data Management:

  • Build, maintain, and audit complex multi-source databases and generate and disseminate reports and spreadsheets to support program operations. Extensive usage of Excel and Symplicity CSM required.
  • Evaluate and modernize how the department’s clinical programs have been managed technologically, and streamline operations where major projects overlap.
  • Collect and maintain a variety of confidential and sensitive data such as case files, academic student records, field placement evaluations, and adjunct faculty hiring information.
  • Oversee course registration: Facilitate class scheduling, placement of students in appropriate seminars, and coordinate enrollment through the Registrar’s Office.
  • Follow up with externship and field clinic students and supervising attorneys regarding ABA-required electronic course submissions (goals memos, MOU’s, and end-of-term evaluations).

Communications:

  • Present overviews of the clinic application process at student information sessions held either in person or virtually on Zoom. A primary speaker in sessions hosted for international students.
  • Manage marketing efforts to ensure student awareness of experiential programs; draft announcements of clinic and externship updates for the weekly Career Services newsletter.

  • Assist with data gathering, statistical analysis, and preparing reports for communications, admissions, risk management, and other law school departments.
  • Respond to high-volume inquiries about the clinic and externship application, registration, and evaluation process from students, staff, faculty, and externship hosts.

Proficiency in the Microsoft 365 suite (with heavy use of Excel, Outlook, and Word), as well as Zoom, and Symplicity CSM (career services and engagement management platform), is essential. Experience with project management platforms such as Asana, Monday.com, or Airtable is highly preferred.
  • Must communicate with precision and clarity across a range of audiences (faculty, staff, students, and external partners) often under time-sensitive conditions. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and discretion in the handling of sensitive student and faculty information.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and written communication skills. Must be able to draft clear and cogent written documents describing our programs, emails to law faculty, attorney supervisors, and other outside entities. Must also possess excellent editing skills.
