and Design (MassArt), is the nation’s first and only independent, free-standing public college of art and design in the country. MassArt is

comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in 18 disciplines, as well as continuing education and youth programs.

Job Description:

Position Title: Associate Director for Career
Development

Salary Range: $70,000 -$85,000 annually

FLSA Status: Exempt

Weekly Hours: 37.5

Bargaining Unit: This position is governed by the Association of Professional
Administrators, APA

General Statement of Duties:

The Associate Director supports the Director of Career
Development in strategic planning and implementation for the department, furthering the mission of the College. This position works as part
of a small Career Development office team and will help at all levels to ensure the office is effective in supporting our community. The
Associate Director focuses on professional programming, experiential learning, employer development, and student and alumni support. The
Career Development office is situated within the division of Student Success and Enrollment Management. It works collaboratively with other
offices that support students, including the Academic Resource Center, Student Engagement, Student Employment, Office of Student Financial
Assistance, the Registrar, and academic departments. Note that some programs may occur outside of business hours.

responsibilities:
Full-time employee (as needed), Undergraduate student employees, Graduate assistants

Duties and
Responsibilities:

  • Advises art & design students and alumni on career planning and readiness, experiential learning,
    career paths of artists and designers, the job/internship search process, interviewing, personal branding, portfolios/samples of work,
    networking, presentation skills, and professional etiquette. Maintains student notes and records from coaching
    appointments.
  • Strategically designs, plans, and implements career development programming for students and alumni. Collaborate with
    the Director to determine a schedule of programming based on office goals, data, and assessment of past events. Organize expert
    participation as needed. Offers career-related presentations in classes. Assists with other programs and events as needed. Examples of
    programming may include (but is not limited to) career fairs, portfolio reviews, employer info sessions, panel discussions, workshops &
    presentations, networking events, class visits, and more.
  • Manages experiential learning programs- currently an internship program
    and a pilot co-op program. This includes facilitating the administration, assessment, and registration process. Works collaboratively across
    campus with faculty, the registrar’s office, financial aid, the business office, and other offices as needed. Assists internship/co-op
    employers and supervisors, offers information sessions for students, and supports them during their experience. Helps manage financial award
    programs that support students engaging in experiential learning. Collects information on other experiential learning being done by students
    as needed.
  • Develops and maintains employer relationships to support and increase recruiting and hiring for internships, co-ops, and
    jobs, as well as employer involvement in virtual and on-campus events. Maintains notes and records from communications with employers and
    follows up as needed to keep
  • Collaborates with the Director on strategic planning and policy development for career development and
    helps develop programs and initiatives. Collects, maintains, and interprets data to assist with evaluating the success of programs. Engages
    in professional development to stay on top of trends. Represents Career Development for internal and external meetings at the Director’s
    request.
  • Hires and manages Creative Career Peer advisors and Graduate assistants who provide peer support and outreach, help with
    Career Development events, marketing, administrative tasks, and projects.
  • Develops & maintains faculty relationships and advances
    office goals, keeps faculty aware of industry trends and career development support, and helps with integrating career readiness into the
    classroom.
  • Develops and assists with marketing initiatives and outreach to raise awareness, share information, get robust attendance
    to programs, and increase student engagement with the Career Development office. This may include (but is not limited to) mass emails,
    newsletters, posters, flyers, and promotional items.
  • Maintains online and printed information and materials for students and
    develops new resources. Ensures all materials are compliant with accessibility standards.
  • Promotes an inclusive environment and
    ensures that the Career Development office is supportive of students of all backgrounds.
  • Maintains and records data for assessment,
    reporting, and evaluating office goals.
  • Helps manage the Career Development job & internship platform, keeps up with new features
    and technologies, and explores ways the platform can be used to support office processes and goals.
  • Assists the office with general
    administrative tasks as needed.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Director of Career Development

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, along with at least 3
    years of experience working in a Higher Education environment in a student-facing role.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and
    outside the box to generate new ideas, along with strong critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
    and precisely both verbally and in writing, along with strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and program
    management skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to initiate and complete projects, attending to all details.
  • Ability to
    multitask, manage priorities, think proactively, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a
    team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to the
    career aspirations of visual artists.
  • Ability to learn new software & technology and be able to troubleshoot technical
    issues.
  • Expert knowledge of office software (MS Office Suite, Google Suite)
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours
    for some programming.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, preferred.
  • Experience
    working in a Career Development (or related) office at a college or university.
  • Knowledge of art and design industries; a background
    as a professional artist or designer is a plus.
  • Basic design and marketing skills are desired.
  • Understanding social media,
    email marketing, and online engagement.
  • Knowledge of or experience with creative entrepreneurship or freelance
    pathways.
  • Experience with any of the following: event planning, advising/mentoring, teaching, marketing, advertising, public
    relations, recruitment, presentations, public speaking.
