Litigation funding solutions platform launches

A new platform has launched to connect fundraising opportunities from litigation platforms with investors.

Litigation Capital Solutions was founded by Edwin Harrap and Matthew Gwynne, who are both experienced in capital raising for illiquid assets.

Harrap also set up S&C Capital last year, which specialises in capital raising and structuring across specialty finance, non-performing loans and real estate.

Litigation Capital Solutions said that the two co-founders have been working together for nearly six months on several mandates before formally announcing the launch.

“Our innovative business aims to bridge the gap between legal assets funding platforms and investors interested in the rapidly growing legal assets and litigation finance sector,” the firm said in a post on business networking site LinkedIn.
“We’ve identified a unique opportunity to connect credible and exciting capital raising opportunities from litigation platforms with institutional and other investors who have developed a keen understanding of this sector. Our goal is to facilitate the deployment of capital into this dynamic market.”

The firm brings together capital raising opportunities from litigation platforms to interested institutions. Its current pipeline of live projects includes consumer law firm lending platforms and SME litigation funding platforms.

It also provides due diligence services and produces insights on stakeholder alignment.

“We are currently engaged in capital raising projects amounting to £130m across several distinct opportunities, mentioned above, demonstrating the significant demand for our services,” the firm said in the LinkedIn post.

Harrap has previously held structured credit roles at Deutsche Bank and Alantra, while Gwynne worked in the sector at Investec and Standard Chartered Bank.

Investor interest in litigation finance has been on the rise in recent months thanks to the potentially high returns on offer, prompting more players to enter the space.

Last December, Ares Management acquired a majority stake in a new fund launched by Australia-based litigation finance specialist Omni Bridgeway.
