Position Summary:
The VCU School of Business Career
Services team seeks a highly motivated and qualified Internship Manager. The Internship Manager will serve as a critical bridge between
academic rigor and professional practice. This role is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of the internship experience-from approving
internship sites to teaching internship courses that deploy reflection to deepen the impact of internships for our students. You will act as
a key liaison between the School of Business, the university-wide Academic Internships Office, and our Business Career Services team to
expand our network of employer partners and create pathways for students to pursue internships that connect their business curriculum with
the world of work. The Internship Manager reports directly to the Director of Business Career Services.
Typical
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Instructor of Record for undergraduate academic internship courses. Facilitate student
learning opportunities focused on professional development, workplace ethics, and career readiness. - Oversee the approval process
for academic internships within the School of Business, ensuring every placement meets pedagogical standards. - Work closely with
Business Career Services to identify and support internship sites and with the VCU Academic - Internships Office to ensure compliance
with university-wide policies. Support internship funding programs. - Develop and manage a systematic process to connect students
with appropriate internship opportunities. - Provide one-on-one coaching and educational presentations to students regarding
internship requirements, professional behavior, and the integration of classroom theory into workplace practice. - Work on special
projects and initiatives as needed to support the School of Business
Qualifications:
Minimum
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Business, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related
field. - At least 3-5 years of experience in career services, employer relations, academic advising, program management, teaching, or
corporate recruiting. - Demonstrated experience in mentoring, coaching, or training individuals in a professional or academic
environment. - Proven track record of building partnerships with external stakeholders (e.g., employers, community leaders, or
alumni). - Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage both corporate partners and VCU’s student
body. - Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of
faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated track record of taking initiative to innovate and iterate programs and/or services to
meet the needs of a wide variety of stakeholders - Proficiency with Career Management Systems (like Handshake or Symplicity) and
Learning Management Systems (like Canvas or Blackboard). - Deep understanding of current job market trends, resume standards, and
professional networking strategies (LinkedIn, etc.).
Salary Range: $65,000-75,000

Typical Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, and may require periodic weekend and evening hours. This
position is in-person at the VCU School of Business in Richmond, VA. This position is eligible for a limited hybrid and flexible work
schedule once training is complete and must be coordinated and approved by the supervisor of this role. Hybrid and flexible arrangements may
not be possible during campus events or high student service periods.
